Here is an example of why it can be hard to tell from TV if a foul occurred or not. Many times refs have better angles than the camera does. Can you tell if the defender is touching the shooter in the chest with his hand?

A still photo doesn't provide some key information that even watching on a two-dimensional screen might tell. Usually, a touch results in some displacement, and that is what you are really looking for. Touching that has no influence or impediment probably should not be called. But, there is usually some force that displaces the shooter somewhat.
 
From that angle I can't, if I was an official I would have to see the whole play, after releasing the shot if he goes sideways, then he was probably pushed, but from this angle at that moment, I certainly couldn't tell and I would not call the foul.

You're right. But some here can make tougher calls than that when the camera is 100 ft. from the court! :ez-laugh:

There is a reason that they use replay. Yes, a TV image can be more accurate that what you thought you saw in real time.
