Had 22 and 4 as Mizzou blew out a 9-2 Old Dominion team last night...

He leads Mizzou with 18 ppg, and they have all 5 starters in double digits scoring on average. He is 41-81 from the 3pt line, shoots 85% from the free throw line, has 28 steals, and puts up 4 rebounds a game too.

Its gotta be between him, Marcus Morris, and Jordan Hamilton at Texas as the POTY favorites heading into conference.

hamilton has been ridiulous.

burks has to be mentioned too. denmon has been extremely efficient, but his usage isn't really that close to the most of the other guys that would be in the conversation. is that his fault? should anderson let him have more shots? it's an interesting debate

How is his usage different than other guys?

He's got a green light to shoot pretty much whenever he can get a shot off. Hamilton does take 3.5 more shots from the field per game, but Denmon and Burks are roughly the same.

denmon has taken 23.9% of mu's shots when he's in the game. which is pretty low for a "star" player. for comparison, hamilton has taken 33.7% of ut's shots while he's in the game.

most guys that will be discussed as conf. poy will take 27-30% of their team's shots when they're playing.

That's a pomroy rating, right?

He also has Marcus Denmon listed as a role player for Mizzou.

His stats don't tell the whole story.

it isn't a rating, it's just a stat, like ppg, or fta or anything else. the stats i mentioned for denmon and hamilton are from pomeroy, but you can get elsewhere. statsheet.com updates much more frequently than pomeroy, so the stats are better. i just find it a clunkier site to navigate.

the "role player" categorization in pomeroy's player stats is just a grouping of players based on their % of possessions used. it doesn't tell you too much, i agree (though it does tell you that he doesn't shoot all that much, and almost never turns it over). but that's why there's a whole table of other stats there for you to look at too.

I know what the stats mean.

"Best player" in a sport like basketball is not something you can determine with numbers alone, and certainly not with the intricate stuff they're coming out with now. They may be relatively accurate predictors of team success, but they fail when it comes to individual player comparisons IMO.

Cam Clark is the best player, followed by cole aldrich.

I certainly don't think Moses (osu) the best player in the conference but i love his game. I'd love to have him on my team.

Pullen will be the best player in conference before the season is over, IMO.

Marcus Morris has been the best overall player to date. Denmon certainly has played well and Pullen has underachieved but will get better. Don't overlook Scott Christopherson at Iowa St, who is averaging 15 ppg and shooting 52% from 3 point range.
