It was bad enough

Clark will be backup PG.
Forte/Mostella will backup Brown.
Hammonds/Carrol will backup Bwill
Murphy Will backup Nash
Gary Gaskins/Soucek will backup Cobbins
Clark will get a taste for D1 ball play behind Smart and he will get 3 years to shine after Smart leaves.

Little Stevie won't like that.

Who's going to go ahead of him next year in the draft if he plays great and the Pokes make a deep run in the tourney? How would he not be the #1 or 2 pick?

Why couldn't McGary or someone like that pass him in the draft? McGary played great in the NCAA Tournament and he has something Marcus Smart doesn't have which is size and a true position in the NBA. Smart is very good but what position does he play in the NBA?

Because this 2012 draft is a VERY weak class...

Reason #1: Andrew Wiggins (by a LARGE margin)

Reason #2: Julius Randle

Reason #3: Jabari Parker

Reason #4: Aaron Gordon

Reason #5: Andrew Harrison

Etc, etc...

Thats how it always looks. Then they make it to college and they don't produce at a high level and their draft stock drops.

As a college basketball fan I like Smart coming back.

As an OU fan, I don't. But it's better for the game when kids that good play multiple years in college.

Ol Travis better produce big with this group, they are the prohibitive favorite in the Big 12 and probably top five preseason at worst.

OKLAST seems to be taking the prospect of bring the rowdy back or whatever the hell they called it and becoming a basketball (with a high dose of football) school again. Cheaper upstairs seats AND three returning NBA prospect starters?!

My guess is that Bone Pick or another donor made the decision easier by handshaking them a few hundreds, so at least they wouldn't be broke college students till NBA riches next offseason... and yes, I know Barry Switzer did about the same thing to get Heisman Billy Boomer to come back after winning his Heisman.

If it's any solace, remember the past two LNC poke games --- they were out of it in the first half and then the second half (mostly) was giggle-worthy. Can we go for THREE years in a row, folks? :D

Wow. Some of you are a little higher on osu, with Smart coming back, than I am. They will be good, and at times very good. But they are still coached by Ford. They still have no inside game. And I'm still not sure that Nash will ever play consistently enough to give them that extra "star" to get over the hump. Top 5? I doubt they start that high, but even if they do, they will fall. I'd expect them to finish 2-3 in the Big 12, to get a 3-4 seed, and to probably bow out in the round of 16.

This is so insulting to Marcus Smart. Do you really think a few hundred dollar bills would influence a kid about to make millions? Do you think he is so stupid he doesn't understand the difference between hundreds and millions? He chose to return. I seriously doubt a few hundred dollars had anything to do with the decision.

I am glad he's staying.

OSUx having a good team is good for this state and I like it when any of the upper-tier talents stays in school.

meh, so they'll be harder to beat. Gives Lon a challenge.

I agree completely. I am also glad that Tubby took the job at Texas Tech. Upgrading the Big-12 is good news. We can look forward to more important games in the LNC, and bigger wins against good competition.

Guys Stevie will start and Smart is pretty good. I hate his flopping just like everyone else, but if he could teach Buddy, Id sure love it and so would you!

I highly doubt Stevie will start.

PG Smart
SG Brown
SF Brian Williams
PF Nash
C Cobbins

Where are you going to put Stevie Clark?

He will get significant minutes but I highly doubt we see him as a freshman in the starting lineup..

As an OU fan, I am acutally glad he came back. Tired of players leaving early on potential alone.

But with that said I think Coach Ford is doing him a disservice by letting him come back. There was an article that talked about Bill Self basically telling Maclamore to go pro and that he would not let him come back. He was saying the money and getting to your 2nd contract a year earlier far outways staying.

Maybe Ford did try to talk him into going. But the concern I would have if I was in Smarts camp is if I get a lingering injury like a groin pull or hamstring. He could still play but will probably not put up the numbers and his stock will drop. Insurance will not pay if he is still playing.

I could see williams sitting and them starting stevie. He is a real good PG and will make OSU better.
But he may not start, i just think he will.

I agree Stevie is a real good PG but Smart will be the starting PG. I've heard from people close to the program that he personally wants to improve at the PG position and his shooting. He had never really played the position before last year.

Brian Williams is 6'6" and is a good rebounder, defender, and has good chemistry with Brown/Cobbins and Smart. He had a broken wrist all of last year and a cast on it when he did come back. When he is healthy, he is capable of scoring 20pts in Big 12 play, playing great D on PGs, wings and PF's. As a junior, I just don't see healthy Brian Williams being started over by Clark.

I just don't really think Clark can sneak into the starting lineup this next year unless there are some injuries or something.

It should only help Clarks development seeing how a good PG does it in front of him, developing, and playing 15mpg or something along those lines.

We will need his 3pt shooting next year for sure.

There's nothing to teach. Smart's not especially good at it. Even TV announcers are calling out his antics. He gets lots of favorable whistles, yes, but he has no secret flopping formula, aside from doing it early and often.

And no, I wouldn't like it if Buddy started resorting to that nonsense.

So when OSU fails to win the Big 12 next year how do the fans react to Ford?

Guys flop for the same reason some coaches yell at the refs...sometimes it pays off. I wouldn't do it but I can see why some do. Blake hit the floor more than necessary but I still loved to watch him play.

Hey Im a huge OU fan, but he does get some good calls, so he is doing something right in the refs eyes.

Try and be objective, If smart wouldve been doing this at OU, you would think it was great.

I like the thought of getting 2-4 extra possessions a game and possibly 2-4 fouls on the other teams best players.
