Jamie Dixon to TCU

Greg Marshall's boy says that there is a good chance that they leave WSU for OK State

TCU has not won an NCAA Tournament game since March 12, 1987

@TCUBasketball's 3rd leading scorer in that game? New HC Jamie Dixon (11 Pts)

ESPN stats post

Makes sense to me. Pitt is not doing much lately. It is his alma mater.

He has access to a lot of talent in the area. If TCU can be good in football they can certainly be good in basketball.

And I don't get yours. Are you saying the Horned Frogs suddenly became relevant because they hired Jamie Dixon as their basketball coach? If so, that's quite an assumption.

Did Texas tech become relevant with the hiring of tubby smith?

Yes. They are relevant. He's a great recruiter who can recruit nationally.

I wonder what Bolden thinks about the hiring of Dixon since tcu was on his list.

This seems like a good hire. I'm glad TCU is committing to basketball a bit. I'd like to see them become a bit more competitive.

About as good a hire as they could've made.

On the surface a good hire but he hasn't done much at Pitt the last few years, and that is a heckuva better basketball job than TCU

11 out of 13 years in the tournament. They were irrelevant before he took over Pitt.

He took over for howland who had more success at Pitt than he did, he also has about 2 NCAA tourney wins in the last 6 years

This right here. I will go on the record and say it is a good hire for TCU, but I'm in no way frightened of TCU now just because of Dixon. He had some very good teams at Pitt with some excellent regular season results. They also made the Sweet 16 three times and the Elite 8 once, however, he really hasn't had much success at all since 2009 when they had Sam Young and DeJuan Blair. In the last 7 years, they only have 3 NCAA tourney wins total and didn't even make the tournament in 2012 or 2015. IMO, the Pitt program has been slipping and the move to the ACC was not good for Pitt.

We will see what happens, but I do expect TCU to be a little bit improved initially, but I don't think his style of play will translate very well into the Big 12.

100% Wrong. In Ben Howland's final two seasons at Pitt, he won the old Big East regular season title twice (02 and 03) and the Conference tournament in his last year (03). They also went to the Sweet 16 in his final two seasons. Dixon took over a very good program and it has faded since then.

Dixon is a good coach who had a good run at Pitt. It was starting to fall off noticeably, but it's quite possible a change of scenery will help. Regardless, it's a great hire for a program that is far and away the worst in the conference.

Howland was there 4 years. Only 2 years they went to the tournament while he was the coach. Let's not act like Pitt was a great program.

First you said they were irrelevant before Dixon, which is absurd as howland had them in 2 sweet 16's....and they also had some good teams when they had Jerome lane, gore and Charles smith

Dixon took them to the elite eight and he was howlands assistant during that time so he had a hand in howlands success.

Another Texas booster throwing their money around (see Hypocrite U) secretly which we won't find out because it's private church school. SMH.

Good Hire for TCU. Solid Coach.

PITT was about to fire him. Time for a change. New school Admin, they wanted their guy.

I don't disagree with you that Dixon had a hand in helping with Howland's success. But this is a whole different animal (undertaking a rebuilding job at a perennial loser like TCU) and all we have to go on is his track record at Pitt. And that track record is taking over a program on the upswing and maintaining that success for a few years.....and then the program noticeably fading.

I have no idea how he will fare at TCU. But one thing is for sure, TCU wants results. If TCU wanted mediocrity or less, they would have held onto Johnson for another year. But I think TCU's expectations with this hire are at least .500 in conference and NCAA tourney appearances. Unfortunately for Dixon, I think that is the probably the ceiling at TCU in the Big 12 right now. The competition is just too good/fierce in this conference.

Fire him? That would be interesting. Fire a guy that took them to 11 tourney appearances in 13 years. Let's just see if they can rebound after losing him. He left them nothing.
