Jamuni McNeace Action Photos

Sounds easy... 20-30lbs is really hard to put on!

It's easier if he redshirts and get on an actual weight training program with a proper diet he most likely doesn't get right now at his high school

I think the pics may be from last season or before. I went to see them play last friday at Plano East, and he looks bigger than in the pics, older too. Very impressed with his athleticism. Very quick, runs the floor like a guard, and a great shot blocker. Had 7 or so blks against PE, 3 against their future TT signee who is 6'8", what a battle they had. Look forward to their future rematches in the B12. Allen doesn't run many plays inside, as they play 3-4 guards most of the time and they can light it up. I don't see this kid as a "project", just needs some offense development. He can bring it on the boards.

Nice, thanks for the info, big. So, he looked more physically developed? How many pts and rbs you think he had? Do you think he's closer to 6-9 like OU lists him or 6-10/6-11 like i've seen him listed elsewhere?

Thanks for the report, big-hOUnd! This is the first real up close and personal evidence we've had that gives us some insight into the kind of player OU signed last fall. You're obviously aware that Jamuni has always been described as a "project," albeit one with a huge upside. But judging by what you saw first-hand, you clearly believe he may be able to help the team sooner rather than later.

Two of my favorite shots in the pics I posted are what appear to be an action sequence that shows him blocking another big's shot just below the rim. What is most impressive to me if that he's doing it without contacting the offensive player with his body or his right hand. If the seven or so blocks you saw can be used as a barometer for what he might be able to do a year from now, it's not unreasonable to believe that he might play some his freshman year. That is, assuming he continues to improve and gets bigger and stronger working with Yo Yo this summer.

Sounds like Allen's guards dominated the ball most of the time, which is all too typical of the guard-oriented high school teams I've seen. Did you get any chance at all to access Jamuni's offensive game? Handles, post moves, shooting touch, range, ability to score inside, etc.?

If you get the opportunity to see him play again, I hope you will share the report with us again.

I've seen Jamuni at least 3 times this year...maybe more. Those pics are from the Allen Christmas Tournament this season so he is not any bigger than what can be seen. Kid has a lot of athleticism to build on with good hands...but offensively he is not ready for the Big XII. Some of that is being so skinny, and also from the lack of ball skills. Calling him a project sounds bad, really has a chance to be a pogo stick in the middle. He is not 6'10, more about 6'8 but does have long arms. I really like his potential, just needs some time.

There is a reason for this...he can't score right now unless it's after offensive rebounds or dunks, his coach knows that (former Norman High coach). Actually has a decent shot, but cannot create offense with ball in his hand whether it be facing up or his back to the basket. The lone game Allen lost when watching him, their gameplan was to get him the ball early and it completely backfired as their team could barely score. Don't think he touched the ball in a creating situation after halftime.

Found this newspaper account of the game big-hOUnd watched, complete with a tidbit about the battle between McNeace and the TTU signee, Smith. The "Big 12 battle" gives the combined points, rebounds and blocks but doesn't break it down. Later in the article it states that Jamuni finished with 9 points (Smith had 13).

Big 12 battle

Smith (a Texas Tech signee) and McNease (an Oklahoma signee) likely played their last one-on-one high school game against each other, but there’s a good chance they’ll see each other this time next year in the Big 12.

If for some reason they don’t hook up again on the hard court in college, the final dual between the pair was fun to watch – the duo combined for 22 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks while flanking each other throughout the night.

His inability to score and create offense inside no doubt explains why he is not expected to contribute much next fall. That could change in the next few months, of course. But it seems highly unlikely he will be ready to complete at the next level anytime soon, especially in the Big 12. If the pictures I posted are recent, he definitely needs to add a lot more muscle to his skinny frame. You're right about the long arms. One of the articles I read says he has an 84" reach.

Well that website is annoying. Everytime i hit the arrow a new video would pop up.

Sorry Ada & Stik for the delayed reply. On V-day I was in ER and diagnosed with a kidney stone (of course I credited her for it) which I'm still carrying around, and just now getting back on board.
Camp said it best about his offense, not much, and he did have one of his shots blocked, which he tried to pull off in heavy traffic close in. Had the ball stripped a couple times trying to dribble in traffic. He really didn't get many passes to him. His points (9) came from flying (yes flying!) to the rim & jamming (double & single handed) dunks off missed shots & a FT. Has excellent timing around the rim, was surprised they didn't run more alley-op plays. Lost count of REB.
If anyone thinks he is "so skinny", they must be talking about his legs which do look slightly thin compared to his upper body, which is very developed. He looks like he's been hitting the weights since x-mas, got the V shape going.
I counted 6 blocks against PE, tho someone else may have gotten credit for one
. Game demeanor, very level-headed. No antics. Did get frustrated at points, seemingly at himself. Looks like a good teammate on the floor & the bench.
Pre-game demeanor: the team's standing court side waiting for the JV game to end. A lil 3 year old girl is walking by them with her mom. Jamuni bends WAY down, puts out a fist, & she obliged with a bump. He seems like a good kid.

Good stuff, big-hOUnd! Sounds like OU signed a good kid with a lot of potential, he just has some work to do before he'll be ready to contribute at a high level. Nothing wrong with that. He won't have to contribute much his first year.

Glad you're on the mend from your kidney stone. Welcome back!
