Doing a nice job with Pitt. That program was a steaming pile of garbage when he took them over, they lost essentially the entire roster, and he has them respectable.

He obviously messed up here, but I think he can coach. I know most hate him, but he stayed here when a lot of suitors came calling after the elite 8 run. I hope he does well.

I saw no indication he was a good game coach. He can obviously recruit but only won when he had the best player in the country on his team. Given how little effort he put into connecting with the fanbase, I have no fond feelings for the guy.

Having the best player in the country doesn't mean you are going to win. Guy can coach. Recruiting was actually his downfall, as he aimed too high and then didn't have backup plans.

I think he was 7-0 in OT games at OU. That would be a sign he can coach for even the most cynical fan.

Look, Capel made a lot of mistakes at OU, but most of those are correctable (ex: having a Plan B with recruits). I think he’ll do a good job at Pitt.

His record at OU speaks for itself. Three awful seasons without Blake, one spectacular one with him as the best player in the country by a mile, and a good record Blake's first year but even that season, they lost pretty much every game they played against good teams. More than that, the thing I'll never forget is that his teams had a very obvious pattern of quitting in games. Go back and look at the margin of defeat in most games against good teams. And then there was the proud loss to Chaminade in the last place game in Maui where the team obviously had no interest in being on the court.

As for his OT record, seven games is such a small sample size that it is essentially meaningless. He coached approximately 170 games at OU, I don't think those seven override the other 160+.

Wichita in a unanimous decision

7-0 in OT games is not a meaningless stat unless someone is obviously biased in their opinion...and that is understandable being how things ended in his tenure. Now that he is the head man again, I guess we'll see if he can really coach or not. At this moment, I think the #11 (FSU) team in the country will stipulate he might not be as incompetent as some here think he is. My money is on him at least getting Pitt back to where they were during the high point of the Jamie Dixon era. And if I'm wrong, it sure as heck won't be the first or last time.

We could have won if we just made it to OT... Nick Thompson wasn't getting us to OT against Crooked Oak JV.

Ahh Nick T. The gift that just keeps on givin! Now that that era is over we can all laugh.. That one pic was hilarious.

I agree. Just young and too soon. I like him.

Again, he screwed up recruiting. He brought in bad apples who delivered maybe the most embarrassing season in OU history.

When those guys were given the boot, the team had no talent but they played their asses off. He won 5 conference games with a 7 man rotation of Andrew Fitzgerald, Cade Davis, Carl Blair, Cam Clark, Stephen Pledger, CJ Washington and Calvin Newell. Again, it's his fault that the talent level was that bad, but the fact that that team won 5 conference games is amazing.

I didnt see him as a bad x's and o's guy. He just failed to understand the role of developing talent vs. recruiting it. work ethic and attitude mean more to a program in the long run than just pure talent. you can afford a couple of meh attitudes with great talent if they're not expected to be the leadership for the team. I dont think he saw that at Duke since they get their pick of the litter most of the time.

I liked Capel and the youth/energy that he brought to the program. Unfortunately, he brought in some knuckleheads and it backfired. I don't think he was a great tactician and I also think he could have engaged more with the fans. I was pretty upset with him when he left our program in shambles.....but I've since moved on. There's no use dwelling on the past or being bitter about it. I hope that he has learned from his missteps and he succeeds at Pitt.

He let the inmates run the asylum and he got us in trouble with NCAA. I don't wish him ill; I just don't give a first, much less a second, thought. He was a blip at best.

I think he is a good coach. I don't think he was a great x's and o's while he was here. I'm guessing he learned alot since he left here
