Just think Joe C could have

Hired Mark Turgeon instead of what we have now.

No. Turgeon turned it down. I'm sure somebody will respond that Turgeon wasn't offered the job but it was offered and he turned it down.

I have good sources on this one.

One has to look as the current situation as an opportunity. Now, Joe has the opportunity to hire someone better than Turgeon. I'm sure Joe has a short list of coaching candidates; at least, he should have.

Turgeon was never offered the OU job. There were talks but he was never extended an offer. I like my sources better than BOBs. I asked someone point blank about Turge and that was what I was told.

The hot rumor was that Joe called Auriemma. Does anyone know if that is actually true or just gossip?

No way BigTime. Bob's sources are always right. He's referred to them plenty on this board.

it goes along the lines of the nondenial denial oh ye Nixons.

"if you were to be offered..."
"nah..."
"ok then you won't be offered"

It was offered. It's all semantics but it was offered.

My sources are close to Turgeon.

...and that would be...?

In 1979, I had not heard of Billy Tubbs. That AD made a successful hire.

In 1993, I had not heard of Kelvin Sampson. That AD made a successful hire.

In 2005, I had not heard of Jeff Capel. The AD failed.

Maybe the ADs in 1979-80 and 1993-94 got lucky. Tubbs and Sampson were not "big names" before they came to OU.

All I know is this. I believe the University of Oklahoma can do better than what we have now. My gosh, OU has a LOSING RECORD in the Big-12 Conference over the most recent 5-year period. By any standard, that is terrible. Is it not??

I wasn't challenging what you were saying...I was wondering who you thought should be the new coach?

I wonder what the options around are.

I wish I knew, but I did not know those other times either.

1. Gregg Marshall
2. Gregg Marshall
3. Gregg Marshall
4. Doc Sadler
5. Terry Evans

I wonder what the options around are.

In 1979 and 1993 do you remember if a consulting firm was used to conduct the coaching search or did the AD do his own due diligence before he made his decision?

Tony, what is Auriemma saying at the -1:29 mark? Something like 5, 12 of midnight? I can't make out what he's trying to say.

My memory is not clear on this question. It seems that a consultant was used in at least one of those cases, but I am not certain.

I didn't actually listen to the audio. I had just read that report the other day and remembered it when seniorsooner asked.
