so in case anyone was wondering, we are getting whipped again. Can't seem to dribble the ball without bouncing it off our feet or throwing it down to our vastly undersized post who then gets blocked every time. This team is just a freaking mess. We might have actually gotten worse since the beginning of the season. Short on players because we recruit projects and the three division 1 level players we have are injured. Taylor has not scored a single point yet because of her lack and athleticism, can't even get open for a shot. Actually she got open for one and it was blocked. Aspen got to play like two minutes and she scored three points and then was pulled for some reason in favor of Simpson.

Is Williston a better option than Simpson? Serious question.

I wish I had been able to see the game. It could be that Williston was today or in that part of the game? Match-ups, plus being tired, plus just playing someone the other team hasn't seen that much OR maybe Williston is becoming the better option. I just want more players to be healthy enough to play and to do well, or at least be able to spell some people.

If Williston becomes the better option, since Sherri thinks Simpson is so important to the team, wouldn't they be able to play together at times with Simpson being more the 4? Just curious if that could work? I haven't seen them play enough to have an opinion. We definitely need to get more players time, if they can contribute.

And I really hope Ana comes back soon and doesn't have too much residual pain and is able to play well...as much for her as anything.

Since I am posting, and often refrain from it, will ask if anyone knows what happened to the posters the last couple of games. I don't care for any bickering nor hating on other teams; but I like to read about what people are seeing in the team. I know it is opinion, but none of my friends or family follow OU basketball, so at least, I get others take on what they saw or what they have heard about the team.

Syb has been notably absent here and I wish he’d come back. I think a lot of the bickering towards him was unwarranted and his content was valuable.

I watched most of the game. We had absolutely no answer for their two post players. One of which (Williams) was all big 12 first team last year I believe and the other is the current runaway favorite for Big 12 freshman of the year. They are the only duo in the country averaging a double double on the same team, so obviously their size and skill down low is a poor matchup for us. Our strategy in the beginning was clearly to take charges down low and we didn’t get the calls (some were bad calls, some were good IMO). Both Madi and Mandy picked up 2 fouls very early. KSU was VERY physical in the first half. There were a ton of whistles and they hit their FTs incredibly well. On top of that, they were hitting 3s too.

Mandy would be all conference if she were 4 inches taller. I believe what Sherri says when she talks about her value to this team, and it’s proven when you watch the team defense falter and the ball movement on offense stop when she is out of the game. Mandy is also one of VERY few on this team that can set solid screens to help Taylor get open. This team is better with her on the floor, period. No, she wasn’t able to stop KSU down low but that’s a tough assignment for anyone.

Aspen provided solid minutes too! She hit a couple 10-foot jumpers with confidence.

Our starting 5 for the second half was T-Rob, Gabby, Madi, Mandy and Lampkin to try to give us more height/help down low, which didn’t help because Lampkin was guarding Williams who can stretch and hit long shots and Lampkin couldn’t keep up with that very well.

Sherri got a technical foul in the 2nd half for arguing a call. I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen her get one before.

I’m not throwing in the towel on this team. They lost Ana at a very rough time.

It may be because of the last 2 games not being on regular tv and not many people have ESPN+.

1) Agree about Syb. 2) Thanks for your input about game. 3) Agree about not throwing in the towel.

I hate to say this, but, I think many have lost interest and just don't care anymore.

I think you are correct.

Teams are just totally focused on making sure Taylor never gets an easy catch and shoot 3...and we don't have an answer. Too many poor (at the Power 5 level) offensive players. And on defense we are just too short and slow to be a good defensive team. KSU is a mediocre offensive team and they were able to score with ease. Our recruiting lack of success is rearing its ugly head. I don't think our problems are correctable...we just aren't talented enough.

I still attend home games, but not always. My interest level is lower, but not gone. I get upset over the same mistakes over and over again, and the lack of a balanced team. The aggravation when we lose games we should win isn't worth the joy when we do win.
I think Coach Coale is a great person but as a coach, her commitment level to recruiting and coaching has dropped too much for her to be effective.
So I will casually watch until we improve our recruiting and coaching

Bingo!!! It hurts but the truth has raised its ugly head and is not going to go away until changes are made. This problem has been getting steadily worse annually starting in 2011. JMHO.

I have been following OU women's basketball since 1984, been a loyal season ticket holder after I quit coaching in 2002 and have missed maybe 3 games in 17 years. I am now at my whitts end with the current coaching leadership. I use to post here a lot more than I currently do now, but I don't think people really want to read a lot of negative posts. With that being said,

It's not that we have a bad team, we have some really good pieces on this team, the biggest problem is their usage. For instance, in my opinion Taylor is the best college shooter I have seen in years, so use her as such. Don't let her just sit outside the arc. I think Coach Stiles has done wonderful work with her in getting other shots on the court, just not enough. Don't let her be a one trick pony. She is moving around better, but set her up just as much inside the arc for better percentage shots as we try for three's.

I want to see Madi take over more on drives as well as 12 foot jump shots. She is becoming a better weapon with time and we need for her to be confident in her ability to score.

Gabby, as some have said here, will play like a veteran, then pull some high school doofus play, I cut her some slack as she gets more comfortable on the D-1 stage, she will get better. I want to see the coaching staff teach these kids you don't have to drive all the way to the basket trying to get fouled, stop and hit the five footer, we seem to have a problem of not taking what the defense gives us.

Mandy, bless her heart, really is the glue to this team, just in how hard she plays all the time, if she can learn to hit layups on a consistent basis she would be so much better, but between her and Aspen, she is the better answer just for her rebounding, that is something Aspen has to work on, great shooter, poor rebounder for her size.

One thing over the years that Sherri I don't think does, is hold accountability for some of the kids actions. Madi had 8 of our 15 turnovers yesterday, I couldn't watch the game, but geez, sit her down and get her head on straight.

KSU has always been a thorn in our side in Manhattan and Coach Mittie gets the best our of the kids he gets, why can't we do the same. There is no doubt we miss Ana, but this team is very capable without her. Just play smarter basketball and don't rely on the three all the time, its a 38 percent shot, or worse, work to get better percentage shots, block out better, play defense, make taking care of the ball a major priority. This team has shown progress, but the kids have to own it, and the coaches need to be smarter than what they have show the last 3 games. Blowing leads in unacceptable and accountability has to be owned by all, from the trainer to the head coach. Just because we don't have the athletes other teams have, doesn't mean you can't play smart and play hard every possession. I'm not throwing in the towel, but I'm not happy either

Hey Roc, that is what I was saying. Except you were articulate, concise yet comprehensive.
And I have always felt SC's teams spent too much time on "flow" and not enough on fundementals.

I just feel like if we are going to develop any sort of post game at some point in the future we have got to give the posts we have an opportunity to get the game experience desperately needed. If we are getting murdered anyway, why not throw these girls in there to see what they can do?We can't expect Aspen and Chloe to miraculously step in next season and be effective players we need when theyve barely even stepped on the court in the past leading up to it. I think Aspen was the better option to Simpson as far as true posts go because their girls were very much taller and taking advantage of that fact yesterday. If Simpson developed any sort of a jump shot she could play at the four, but she really does not have that option. Lampkin still needs so much work when it comes to anticipating passes and overall basketball IQ. I don't think Tot will be the answer, although she may help a bit. Tatum is just not what we need. I really anticipated her being so much more than what she's been. I don't know what the answer for this team is. I just don't think these girls have what it takes to be good consistently...IMO, we need a complete overhaul of the roster, keeping Madi, Scott and Anna, and everyone else is expendable. SC can't bring in the quality and talent we need, so I don't know the answer outside of bringing in a new head coach. At this point, does anyone believe this team actually has what it takes to be a legitimate tournament team? We would have to win the majority of our remaining games I believe to be considered so

Sherri & Colton have done all that can be done for this team...its the new coaches fault

You want to get rid of Gregory with her probably going to be named All Big 12 first team Freshman team? But you want to keep Scott, who has played little so you don't what she can do beside foul at least once a minute when she plays.

Can you discuss the reason SC argued at that point. I saw the fact we got a "Team Technical" and wondered why.

As a second thought, we may be forced by the Big-12 to hire a male coach. The officials in the conference consistently allow teams coached by a man to be far more physical than teams coached by women. Most of the officials are male, so I wonder if perhaps they are defending their male counterparts either intentionally or unintentionally.

Ana was injured late in the game at OK State. It has become a not infrequent situation where we get a key player hurt when we play the pokes. Much of it is because they are allowed to get really physical against us. Of course, they have a male coach - so it is just par for the course with Big-12 officials. In the post above you mentioned how physical K State (male coach) was in the game, yet it was SC who was punished for arguing a call. Weird.

Will Baylor need to hire a male coach too?

Most of the officials are not male. Of the 7 conference games OU has played, 5 of the 7 have been 2 female and 1 male referee. 12 female and 9 male total in the 7 games. Of the 3 games we have won in conference, they have all been against male coaches. Coale has lost to all 3 female coaches she has played in conference.
