Kelvin, come back!

There is no way the Houston job is better than OU.

Historically, no. Currently? There’s an argument to be made. Donor support, fan support, facilities, recruiting footprint all in favor of Houston, not to mention they’re still playing and we are not.

I agree. Anybody that doesn't see that is blind to the facts.

Feritta bankrolling them has really helped.

That would be factually correct. Oklahoma has had 5 consecutive coaches do no worse than taking his team to the Sweet 16. Houston went 6 consecutive coaches without winning even one NCAA tournament game. That makes the comparison between the two programs a complete mismatch. Odds are, once Kelvin retires, Houston goes back to waiting 30 years between NCAA tournament victories. As for OU, if you can't win at Oklahoma, you probably can't win anywhere...at least that's what 40+ years of history tell us.

I can tell you that I’ve talked to two former players, one OU one not, who say OU is a really bad job right now. No facilities, no support, no admin support. The only thing OU has going for it is that there’s been success and there’s expected success.

Both said Houston is a better job right now.

Again, I'm only going by facts. I'm guessing those same sources will tell you that Oral Roberts is a better job than OU right now. Once the sixth straight coach takes OU to the Sweet 16 and likely beyond, I'm sure it will be considered a good job again.

No. Oral Roberts isn’t a better job. If you can’t understand support and facilities are key to recruiting, I don’t know what to tell you.

Head in the sand. We need to take a good, hard, honest look at the program. We need a new arena and a facilities upgrade. We need donors to step up and invest in the program. We need the admin to invest in the program. Everything matters in recruiting.

We have been trying to overcome our own shortcomings for as long as I can remember. The success we’ve had in spite of ourselves is impressive. Just imagine how much success we could have if we had the support of the donors and the university. We can either invest and plan to build a successful program, or watch it continue to rot and decay into nothing.

We have much that needs to be addressed.

No, my head isn't in the sand. I don't disagree with anything else you said. I think everyone agrees more attention and money needs to be spent on the men's basketball program. All I'm saying is there is more than 40 years of history to indicate OU will be back in the Sweet 16 and possibly Final Four soon after the new coach is hired...seems to happen like clockwork.

The Houston/Gonzaga finals will be a lot like Kelvin’s games against Roy Williams at KU

Agree with this 100%. I feel like who we hire will tell us a lot about how coaching candidates view the program and how the athletic department views it moving forward.

Can OU snag someone like Dana Altman from Oregon or even Kellen Sampson? Or will they have to settle for someone like Turgeon? Fingers crossed it's not the latter.

Yes. I expect him to work Gonzaga’s D to death. They will be able to get good shots. If they make enough it will be fun.

Would cry tears of joy if KS came back and saved us from mediocrity. We're so mediocre right now that many of our fans ardently support our mediocrity.

Kind of like how Lon will help Kevin get started at UNLV, maybe we can get a package deal with Kellen and Kelvin. Believe Coach mentioned in another thread that Kellen was contacted about the job. This would be the best OU could do imo.

He needs to get there first. This is the easiest bracket a team has ever had ... they can be the first team to make the FF without playing a single digit seed.

What facilities need to be upgraded other than a new arena? If you had a few spare millions, what would you spend it on, other than a new arena?

OU had one of the highest paid coaching staffs in the country ..

OU has great facilities (other than the arena)

so your post is not correct ..

interesting.....I had mentioned Lon was paid top money but not getting the top results. Several dismissed it.

As far as facilities...didn't OU upgrade practice/locker rooms a few yrs ago? I thought Blake had given money for some things.

Blake donated money for a brand new weight room a few years ago. That's why asked what needed to be updated other than a new arena.
