I’ve been to most home games this year. Holst looks extremely thin and would be pushed around in the SEC. He needs to gain about 30 lbsHe is red shirting this year.

Reasonable take. I think he’ll get some run. I don’t think he’s being brought in to just be a “practice guy.” The staff clearly thinks he can help in some capacity. Six or seven minutes a game, no fouls, no turnovers and good defense would be great. Any scoring is just icing on the cake. The only thing I can safely say is that not a single one of us has any clue how good or bad he is. There is a huge disparity in the quality of overseas leagues and without being insiders on his league, it’s all conjecture. The fact that he is older, has put up very modest numbers, and has generally been mentioned as a depth piece for OU leads me to believe that he isn’t going to have a ton of impact. We have probably had about 10 guys over the past few years who come in as under the radar guys, and based on short highlights against unknown competition, people say “he looks reasonably athletic and mobile.” (See, Northweather, Luke.) We also know that it usually takes Moser a LONG time to trust newcomers, unless they are a lottery pick like Fears.
My guess is that he is our third big, makes an occasional shot or block that gets people excited, but only plays a few minutes a game. And if so, that’s still perfectly fine. There is no downside to this move. He isn’t tying up a scholarship, and since Holst isn’t eligible and is looking less and less likely to be a guy at any point in his career, it’s not like this is going to hurt anyone’s development. If he helps us in even a handful of games where Mo is in foul trouble and eliminates the need for us to go small and get killed on the glass, that’s great. And if he is much more than that, all the better.

The fact he is a total afterthought, was always expected to redshirt, and looks like he needs to spend a year in the kitchen to even be physically capable of playing at this though. What have you seen or heard about Holst that makes you say it's looking less and less likely to be a guy at any point?
Agreed! Gotta have the shooting and ball skills to overcome the lack of weight/bulk. But these guys are typically power forwards playing next to a bigger more physical center. Like Chet did with Timme.holst is listed at 7' x 200lbs
chet is 7'1" x 208
not a massive difference.
not sure why people obsess over this
Bang
lol it’s not.No way this is true
I mean...why not though. Lol!lol it’s not.
I’m taller than TY and have a similar build. Does that mean my size wouldn’t be a factor if I tried to play major college basketball or in the NBA? Or could it be that guys like Chet and TY are one in a thousand outliers because they have incredibly rare skill sets that allow them to play at the highest level despite their frames?holst is listed at 7' x 200lbs
