Interesting stuff from the tigerboard (this guy is pretty obsessed but still good stuff.)

With the NCAA likely exhausting all of their collective resources trying to compress a decision of whether Tony Mitchell is eligible or not into a short 8 month time frame, I feel compelled to assist their efforts toward their actual purpose of controlling the shady underbelly of college basketball at least to a degree.
As you know, of late the NCAA has asked Kansas to cease having alumni send checks through the mail to their players. They have asked the Athletic Department to cease improperly organized barnstorming tours in which Kansas players received the gate money. KU now employs a qualified individual as their Director of Basketball Operations instead of the father of a player. And now David Freeman broke what they considered a fool proof operation and derailed their off the books revenue from the ticket scandal. How can Kansas Basketball be expected to operate in such an environment?
This story begins back in 1982, technically the last time by NCAA definition that Kansas was within the scope of Lack of Institutional Control. A student by the name of Doug Compton earned his bachelor’s degree from Kansas in General Studies, and after securing a loan purchased the Bottom’s Up bar from former basketball player Paul Mokeski. He soon purchased another bar, branched out into real estate, and became a multi-multi millionaire.
Today his company brings in excess of $25 million in revenue annually. Doug Compton is an avid Kansas Basketball supporter. "It's like the only hobby that I have," Compton said of his passion. He is a business partner with Larry Brown and Danny Manning. He owns his own jet named Jayhawk One, which was featured in the story about Lew Perkins abusing his privileges and taking private jets for his personal use. His court seats are so good that he wasn’t moved back with the other big boosters and got to sit right with all the other riff-raff who purchased stolen tickets on the front row near Perkins, and close to the porn stars that Kansas assistants give their best tickets to. Compton lives in a huge mansion in the most exclusive cul de sac in town. There are only three houses on his street in fact….his, the one Bill Self currently lives in that he got from David Freeman, and Roger Morningstar who allegedly received over $800,000 from the stolen ticket scandal.
Compton was the ‘employer’ of Cole Aldrich’s father after he relocated to Lawrence when his son choose Kansas. With his son declaring early for the NBA draft, that is no longer the case. In the present without question Kansas’s currently undefeated team has 3 integral parts…the Morris twins and Josh Selby. Without players of that caliber the Kansas basketball machine can’t function. Which is why Kansas devoted considerable resources towards getting Josh Selby eligible despite him receiving over $4,000 in improper benefits from a professional advisor and being allowed to drive the Mercedes and get gifts from an Adidias agent. And why they enrolled the Morris twins in high school classes in Lawrence when they couldn’t qualify and got them enrolled 3 weeks after school started, looked the other way when they drunkenly shot a lady out of their apartment window, and allowed them to live on campus before they were eligible for academic aide.
But that is all information anyone with access to Google could uncover. What you couldn’t uncover via google is that Doug Compton’s receptionist at his huge real estate office came all the way from Philadelphia to supply her unique skills. The position in question just happens to be filled by the mother of Markieff and Marcus Morris.
Doug Compton has a son, Doug Compton Jr, who is currently enrolled at Kansas. Bill Self was quoted in an article speaking about Doug Jr, ““Douglas has come to me and expressed a desire to be a coach and he will be involved in our program in some form or fashion. We are going to try to figure out a way he can be involved with our program through different duties. I don’t know what they will entail at this time.” What those duties ended up being is Doug is the Video Manager for Kansas’s Basketball team. But that isn’t the capacity in which he most helps Kansas basketball. In a rather odd and unique occurrence, this video manager is a roommate of a Kansas freshman from Baltimore. It would seem to be rather atypical for Josh Selby to room not with a teammate but a video manager, with the exception that Doug Compton Jr. would be a rather fine roommate to have if you wanted lots of nice things and needed to borrow some spending money.
So while things aren’t quite as publicly shady as they once were in Lawrence, the machine rolls on and its still business as usual.
