Lew Hill to UT Rio Grande

If we move crutch up, I wouldn't mind seeing Hollis price offered crutch's current role.

Najera, Kellen Sampson, and Evans would also make good options, IMO. Coach will get some good ones.

Man, there's a lot of bad news on this board this afternoon.

I might be alone, but I don't really want any of the former OU players that some are naming. None have the experience. LK will go find a couple of guys with experience, that are a good fit.

Not sure Hollis would leave if offered. Dude is pretty tight with Kelvin.

good programs lose star players and assistant coaches. This is a good thing, not a bad thing. Now Kruger will mentor two new assistants.

it's good for Hill and Henson but not good for us, any more than seeing Ryan, Buddy and Isaiah leave is good for us. It's part of the deal, yes, but it's a blow to be overcome. Coach Kruger's going to have his hands full bringing along a very young team next season; it'd be nice if he didn't also have to mentor two young coaches at the same time.

Losing your assistants to head coaching jobs is good news. Means they've done a good job and they are desired. Makes your assistant jobs more desirable as well. Win win for everybody.

Better news (for OU, not for the two coaches) would be if those assistants who have done such a good job remained with our program. The chances of two new guys, younger and with less experience, picking right up where Henson and Hill left off isn't all that great.

I agree that they got hired because of the good work they did at OU, but that good work has now come to an end. That's not good news. We have to hope that their replacements do every bit as good a job, if not better, but that is far from guaranteed. Every new hire is something of a crapshoot.

Agree. I think coach Kruger will have PLENTY OF OPTIONS.

I could see Shepard sliding up.

That's entirely possible but he's good in his role. I'd like to see a younger, up and coming guy get at least one spot and then get a high level assistant for the other.

No need to pay a guy who already can't get kids to OU.

I K W T

I disagree with that statement. You can't get kids to OU if you fire one coach during one recruitment(randle) and the other coach stops recruiting the other kid(Bolden).

Disagree except possibly Price.

Huh?

Webster certainly doesn't. It could be suggested that Evans does, but I'd question the fit with him. He needs a head job at a small D1 school. He will struggle as an assistant after being the top guy for so long.

I wasn't considering Webster as legitimate candidate or necessarily considering fit. I just disagree that Najera, Sampson, or Evans lack experience. Personally the only ones I'd consider would be Najera and Price, despite his relative lack of experience.

Wasnt Bob criticized for hiring "OU"/ "his" guys... I want what LK wants, he knows what he is doing...

I trust Lon, not his 1st rodeo.

For pure speculation I think it would be a fine idea to pick a current AAU coach or ex NBA player if it's the right fit, to go with a proven assistant. If the new coach has a 17 year old son in the top 30 or is coaching a great player on his AAU team then that's just a fortunate coincidence, 1st time that's ever happened. Plus that position doesn't have to be filled before August ;)

Absolutely. Brings prestige to the program and acknowledges the program's standing.

And you're right, if good assistants think that coaching at OU will help propel them to a head job, Kruger will have more good candidates to select from.

Good luck to both.
