Liz returning to Tulsa Shock

I mentioned this drama queen's saga over on sf.com, but perhaps you all would appreciate the sh!t Liz Cambage has put Tulsa's franchise through, and how it relates to a few Big 12 alums (OU and Baylor, so perhaps this board will love this tale of woe even more).

Liz Cambage, in a nutshell, has been toying with the Tulsa Shock franchise since before she was drafted. After being quoted by the Aussie media that she didn't want to come to Tulsa and preferred a place like LA instead, she clarified to say that her comments were taken out of context.

So her only season here, they were like a 3-win team, infamous Nolan Richardson got fired and she went off to do the Aussie Olympic thing, then decided not to come back to Tulsa... then this season said she was focusing on her Chinese career instead, where she was reportedly making $400K-$500K annually (a contract that reportedly will be voided if she was injured in the WNBA).

Enter Big 12 alum drama. The Chinese ball club she had her big dealio with signed Britney Griner instead. League rules stipulate the number of non-Asians you can have (no joke) so they gave her non-Asian spot to Britney Griner.

So just this week, Tulsa Shock announces HEY! Our Aussie dunker plans to return to the team! Isn't that great news?

Not if you're the team's current center... none other than OU's own Courtney Paris.

Given China's history with human rights and ignoring copyrights and dicking around with the entire world's economy, I can't say that I'm too surprised that a Chinese franchise would string her along like this. As much as I'd love to say "basketball karma, you beyonce," she's been stringing along the Tulsa franchise too, and I hope it doesn't cost CP3 her roster spot.

fyi, if you have any thoughts and prayers in reserve after all of our tornado recovery efforts, today is the day the Tulsa Shock has to make its final roster cut, thanks to Frizz Cabbage returning from Australia.

Three centers currently on the roster, methinks one will be cut today.

If you have no thoughts and prayers left to offer after Moore, please send good vibes CP3's way

Cambage will go to China again this year once the WNBA season ends where she will reportedly make $400,000.

Courtney Paris was cut today, there's a chance another team will pick her up; right now Drob is the only Sooner in the WNBA.

One of the main reasons reported for Liz not returning was the fear of injury. She had a clause with the Chinese league about getting an injury in their offseason. That clause is no longer in effect due to Griner being signed over her.

Edit: Just read where another Chinese team did sign Liz for next season.

I can only hope you are in no way serious!

There is an article in the Tulsa World where Cambage explains why she didn't play for Tulsa last year.

Goodrich made the Shock roster. I didn't think she would but very glad for her that she did.

Actually, this is the one :)

Courtney has had nothing but bad luck since arriving in the WNBA. She kind of dropped in the draft down to her hometown team, which seemed like a blessing, except Sacramento Monarchs folded the very next year.

Then, she gets cut in favor of her Sooner protege at the Chicago Sky (Abi Olajuwon), and has been team hopping every since.

I really thought she found a home here in Tulsa, playing as a backup at least 20 games last year and having a fairly good preseason showing. Hell, she and her sister helped get the team in Tulsa back when it was bought by local investors, acting as ambassadors for the game, even though CP3 was in Sacramento and Ashley wasn't even in the WNBA at the time.

The Tulsa franchise has had its own string of bad luck. Nolan Richardson (the infamous ex-Arkansas national championship mens basketball coach that got fired and left running his mouth to the media) was the first coach and he thought he could turn ex-disgraced Olympian Marion Jones back into a basketball player. Huh?

His final top draft pick was none other than Zit Baggage. He left her first (and so far only) season in Tulsa midway through when it became apparent the losing would never stop. I don't recall if it was mutual, a firing, or he resigned.

I am not a hardcore fan of the Tulsa Shock, nor the WNBA, but neither have really given me any reason to be a fan. Whenever a Sooner gets drafted, a Sooner gets cut or thrown around the league that seems to be comprised mostly of veterans hogging roster spots with few opportunities for younger talent... veterans that will congregate on a few franchises, driving a lot of parity between the haves and have nots in the league... veterans that chose not to come to Tulsa when the franchise moved from Detroit. Jerks.

If you're a fan of Tulsa Shock and the WNBA, I apologize if I offend you or if I'm crapping all over your favorite franchise/league/etc. But I fully intend to come up with at least 100 more alternate names for Quiz Flambage during the summer offseason after this CP3 cut
