I agree with this. But most the people online and on social media who are still defending MMM seem to be arguing that he isn’t succeeding because of a lack of support, and that’s what I disagree with.
Some of the home teams that pulled upsets tonight had great crowds. But the thing that strikes me is this: Stanford and Texas have first or second year coaches. Their fans turned out for a ranked opponent. And their team rewarded them. Moser had that same scenario so many times his first four years, and he lost damn near every time. That’s why I have reached the point where I don’t blame the fans. And trust me, when I was younger and regularly driving over 5 hours round trip and getting home after 1:00 on weeknights to attend games, it infuriated me how bad the crowds were. But that was when we had teams and coaches who had earned better crowds. Moser has done the opposite. His results in marquee home games has driven people away.
