Mason-Griffin defiant heading into draft > Tulsa World

No one made him go to college. Furthermore, doesn't matter if the league rule was in effect or not when TMG came out of HS, he wasn't getting drafted.

Most likely he'll end up overseas, making most likely 6 figures doing something he loves to do. He just didn't like school, as many don't. I can't fault him for leaving on that basis.

TMG has been working out with a trainer at a place called Legends in Houston. It's actually out north by The Woodlands. This trainer moved there in the past couple of months ..... and other players working out with him include Adrian Peterson and Vince Young....... AD's mother now lives in The Woodlands.

I was talking to a friend while playing racquetball tonight. This guy is 28 and is a former HS Player of the Year in Houston ...... played 4 years of D1 and 4 years overseas. He said TMG is too small. He said he talked with TMG and that he had no choice to come out because he didn't go to class 10 times during 2nd semester.

Hanging around with AD= good
Hanging out with Radio = getting into a brawl at a strip club and getting thrown in jail.

Makes alot of sense...... Just not wired mentally to be a college student.

Most kids don't like school, when you get right down to it, but they stick it out because they know their lives, professional and personal, will benefit from it.

TMG would have definitely benefited from another year in college (as a basketball player, not to mention as a person -- I don't really expect him to take that into account), so like thousands of other OU students are doing, he should have worked hard enough to tough it out another year. I have no doubt he could have scraped by, but not by skipping class all the time.

That said, I'm glad he's gone. I'm glad the whole "What, Me? Play Defense?" Threesome is gone. May they all succeed at whatever they do, and may my Sooners return to exhibiting heart, hustle and teamwork on the hardcourt.

There are tons of kids on athletic scholarships who "don't like school". But they figure out that going to class and staying in school is in their own best interest. They realize that if they don't stick it out, in 10 or 15 years, they will be just another failed jock who didn't take advantage of the opportunities they had in college.

I have to agree with the previous two posts. While I do believe that he was a little misunderstood, all he really needed to do was attend class and tutoring sessions if need be. The rest would have fallen into place. If he knew he sucked at school, why did he attempt to attend a university? A guy who didn't go to college got drafted out of the D-League last night, and TMG didn't.

I hope these guys and their experiences with "me first" basketball at OU serve as a lesson. Doing things their way got them lower second round.
