Are those of you that thought he could play the three convinced you were wrong?

Every day in practice for a year he dominated from the 3. He garnered attention from NBA scouts this summer at camp playing the 3. I'm not convinced that he can play the 4.

No he can absolutely play the 3.

His 3Pt shot has been off lately, but he has all the tools to be able to play the 3.

Thats why he's projected as an NBA pick.

Tiny Gallon got drafted in the second round..............Amath is so much better than Tiny

Really? What a clown post. Give the guy some time and a fair chance.

EXACTLY!

We've struggled (in some regards), and M'Baye hasn't played one minute at the 3 this season. And instead of experimenting with a bigger lineup, we find out today that Clark is now getting minutes at the 4.

It happens every year. Most recently with Taylor Griffin and to a lesser extent, Nate Carter. I think Taylor played something like 20 minutes, maybe, on the wing.

IF M'Baye is going to make it in the NBA, sure, he is going to have to do it as a SF. That doesn't mean he can play the 3 in college though. Different game.

He already leads the team in turnovers. Moving him to the wing where he would handle the ball more, against quicker defenders, isn't the answer.

SO: 8 - 49, .163%
JR: 0 - 7, .000%

Enough Said

I want him playing what he is...a stretch 4. He needs to knock some jumpers down (not 3s) to keep defenses honest and he needs to toughen up. All our bigs need to toughen up around the rim; rebounding, finishing on offense, and contesting shots. I'm starting to see glimpses of what he CAN be and I like it.

College and NBA small forward are different positions. NBA also drafts on potential for a guy like Amath. Also, given how bad are holdover players can be by some accounts, dominating an OU practice last year doesn't sound too impressive.

Amath will find his game as the season progresses, but this team needs points in the paint. May not be the best thing for Amath right now, but it is the best for OU's season.

I don't know that I would agree with that. Tiny Gallon was pretty freaking good. He could shoot and handle the ball quite well for a guy his size. He needed to drop some weight and work on his game but I think he could have played in the NBA.

M'Baye looks pretty good to me too but I don't remotely see a 3 in the guy. He cannot hit a college 3 point shot and most certainly doesn't have NBA range.

An NBA 3 has a 3 point shot. M'Baye has not remotely shown that he has a 3 point shot.

hitting the 3 as an nba rookie is not required to play the 3

We don't have anything to argue about. I can agree with about all of that. Being the best player in the gym At OU for the last 2/3 years has been a low bar.

Besides some scoring, OU needed defense and rebounding from someone other than Osby. M'Baye is probably currently filling the role that gives the team the best chance to win.

Catching the ball, holding on to the ball, and dribbling the ball in traffic is the source of the majority of his turnovers. Contrary to the wisdom of the ancients, getting him out of traffic would reduce his turnovers.

big 3s just aren't very useful in college. skilled 4s help their teams so much more.

Well see. Looks like just an athlete with little skills.. Gallon was a very skilled player that did that despite being too fat... I'd take gallon everyday and people who know basketball would too

Amath seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place right now. He's not tough enough or strong enough to play the four, yet his handles and his inconsistent shooting from the outside limits what he can do from the three.

He was practically non-existent in today's game, except for one memorable dunk I can recall. That's why he spent most of the second half on the bench with Coach Kruger. I think the message from Coach might have been, "if you want to disappear when you're on the floor, you might as well sit this one out." Hopefully, Amath will get the message and show up in the next game.
