MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

Not really a great list of schools there. If he ends up at OSU it will make me very sad, though.

According to Rivals, he had offers from Uconn/KU/Texas/Alabama/Creighton/Ucla out of high school. Plus a whole lot more.
Would be surprised if that list doesn't get a lot better over the next couple days.

I think we narrowed down the potential reasons for transferring though, based on this list:

-Wants more NIL
-Was swayed by better schools
-Doesn't like our roster build (still in play, but likely not for success purposes)
-Unhappy with role on team/potential playing time
-Doesn't like the competition of guards coming in for PT
-Was processed by staff (a new theory, but doesn't match if Yaya is still on roster)

I mean, it could, but a lot of teams are filling up and he’s quite the unknown right now.

The market will be severely depressed for him based on not getting any real playing time at a non-tourney team.

He didn't mention Moser in his goodbye statement. Maybe he doesn't get along with him? Not likely, since it seems Moser is well-liked, but possible.

Very good point. I would think, if that were the case, he would have entered much sooner (no pun) than he did? But, things change and so do opinions.

I agree it's not NIL or better school. I still think an honest conversation with Moser about playing time is the most likely. If he was unhappy with how the year went, he would have been in the portal much earlier.

I'm honestly okay with keeping Yaya given that he is not eligible for NIL money. We can do much worse with the last man on the bench, and we often do. At minimum, he's better than a walk-on to practice against. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he's capable of providing 10 quality minutes off the bench as a senior. A guy like Cooper isn't okay with being the last guy off the bench moving forward. I have no idea what his NIL package looks like, but I would imagine 50-100K would be easily attainable for him (if not this year, then within a year of quality play at a smaller school). You simply can't pay that kinda money to somebody who isn't going to see the floor.

To clarify, I'd much rather have Cooper than Yaya. I just think the NIL difference makes Yaya a better option for a guy buried in our depth chart.

He’s prob smart enough that if he drags his coach down he’ll be less desirable. No need to doing that and it only hurts his future… that’s also an option.

I think it's unwise to try to make assumptions regarding why a player--any player--doesn't hit the portal earlier. I think most of us at one time or another have stewed over a decision for a good long while as we struggled to make up our minds. Cooper could have been disappointed in his first year (he almost certainly was) and/or not thrilled with Coach Moser and still have found it a tough decision to make. He might be a Sooner diehard who's long dreamed of playing for OU--if so, it's not easy to let that go. I was a diehard OU fan entering college. I was also a terrible athlete, but if I'd been a good one and had received a scholarship to play basketball at OU, I would have thought long and hard before ever even considering entering the portal.

The season started 6 months ago and has been over for 2 months. He had plenty of time to formulate an opinion about Moser and his lack of playing time. If you hate a coach, it doesn't take that long to figure it out. I think it's accurate to say he's not entirely pleased with the season -- I'd judge most athletes for being okay with a complete lack of playing time. That's different than implying he left simply because he doesn't like Moser.

I understand that I can't definitively say what was going through his mind, but neither can you (or any other poster). Saying that he left because he didn't like Moser is just as big of an assumption as saying he didn't. Given the timeline, I think saying that he didn't like Moser is actually a much bigger assumption.

I imagine non-players' opinions of moser are vastly different than his poor players' opinions since they are subjected to his poop trash offense "system".

But wait, we're going to play "faster" next season, i bet

True. But what he's saying is a little bit different. He didnt say anything positive about moser while exiting (i.e., "thanks moser for taking a chance on me...").

Ole Miss recently got a commitment from Virginia Tech junior guard Sean Pedulla out of the transfer portal.

When asked “why Ole Miss?” he said “a bunch of reasons.”

But the main one he talked about was Rebel coach Chris Beard.

“My relationship with coach Beard developed quickly and it’s a good relationship,” Sean noted. “He was the most relaxed and least stressful coach I talked to and he showed me he could do the best job in helping me reach my dream, which is to play in the NBA.

“My other dream is to get back into the thick of things in March Madness, which is every kid’s dream when he plays college basketball, and with the pieces Ole Miss has coming back plus the pieces coach Beard is bringing in via the portal and the freshmen they have signed, we will get there – no doubt,” Pedulla, who averaged 16.4 points per game last season for the Hokies.

The Edmond, Oklahoma native also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game and was named Third Team All-ACC for his efforts.

Pedulla, who is in the middle of final exams at Virginia Tech, hopes to be on the Ole Miss campus “at the end of May or early June.”

So, Sean, what’s your game when you hit the hardwood?

“My game is to be aggressive on offense and defense,” the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder began. “I like to play fast. I can create off the bounce and I can create for my teammates with the dish. I like to think my strength is making something out of nothing.

“I like to play pressure defense and I like to attack on offense. We played slower than I like at Virginia Tech, but I’m sure we are going to play faster at Ole Miss. That was one of the selling points.”

Pedulla said he anticipates playing point guard and some off guard.

“I’ll be at the point mostly, but I will also play off the ball some when JuJu (Murray) or some of the other ballhandlers are in the game,” he stated. “All I know is that I am really excited to get to Oxford and get started on this journey as a Rebel.”

Pedulla said he is very blessed and grateful to have an NIL package with the Grove Collective that is “pleasing,” and he appreciates the GC a lot, but he stressed that was not the biggest reason for him coming to Ole Miss.

“I am more than happy with the Grove Collective and how they are going to take any financial burden off of me, but this was a basketball decision for me. Ole Miss is where I want to finish my college career,” he ended. “The Grove Collective package is icing on the cake, though, and I am thankful.”
