If we use Mulkey properly, which I think we will, she will be a high post on offense. She can see the entire floor and is a good passer. She is also a very good shot from fifteen feet in, and she can hit a three. With her at a high post, and someone having to guard her, it leaves a forward type free to go to the hoop against someone other than a post. It should also free up the lane area for drivers. She doesn't need to score much, and I expect that she will hit 8-12 points regularly, a lot on putbacks, short jumpers, and free throws. She can score in a lot of ways.
Defensively, she brings something that only height can bring. She intimidates. She can also block shots. She has good hands that find the ball, like Courtney. She can put her hands on the ball to block it, and she can simply palm it from there. Makes an outlet pass off of a blocked shot easy. She won't get every rebound, but she will get her share and make it easy for others to rebound. She can get about any tip she wants.
She doesn't have to be a great athlete. She is better than they give her credit for being. But, she has a lot of basketball knowledge, and she controls the game at both ends. It flows around her. I don't know if that comes through in an all-star type format since they haven't spent a year with her. They don't know how to use her to make themselves better. I doubt that any guards on Cypress Woods would have scholarships had they not had Mulkey creating opportunities.
The most interesting thing that I saw about Nancy was when she fouled out of the championship game. After a short sideline huddle with the coach, as they team went back to the floor, she called them back to her--not to the coach---to her. She talked to them for about twenty or thirty seconds, and they came back and listened to her. It was obvious who was the leader of the team.
