GAME 2 - OKLAHOMA (1-0) VS NORTHWESTERN STATE (1-1) - 7PM CST on SEC NETWORK+

Outsider with a perspective.

It's not that you are necessarily wrong with some of your observations and conclusions...many times you are spot on.

BUT, you constantly bitch, and gripe, and moan.

Either dial it back and state your case once and leave it, or mix in just a bit of hope or, if you see none, sprinkle in something positive.

There is enough crap in our country/world right now....sprinkler in a positive thought.
Ah, another member of the board police. I’ll give careful consideration to your perspective. Out of curiosity, do you have the same thoughts about the folks who repeatedly post about how good we look and how many awesome players we have? Do those repetitive posts also offend you?

No one is obligated to make stuff up just for the sake of being positive. I’ve complimented Fears multiple times and have said all kinds of good things about Moore. Outside of that, I see a roster that will have all sorts of issues this season. Jones might help if he gets healthy and Goodine should provide shooting once he is back, but this team is much closer to the squad we had two years ago than to the team that we had last year.

Saw some highlights, will try to watch the game later today.

Fears looks smooth as ice out there. Happy to have a guard that moves and attacks like he does.
Miles seemed to have a very off game. 2nd in shooting volume, only 9 pts? Yikes.
Godwin, seemed to be decent? Not the 15+ pts Godwin some expected.
Moore took over, going to need more of his aggressiveness and getting to the line this year.
Wague...this addition just keeps putting me in the "Moser gotta go" camp. 3 fouls in 12 mins. Dude, JUST STAND WITH YOUR ARMS UP! At some point, there has to be SOME level of coaching here, right? Ugh.

Will follow-up as I get to see more of the game. May just watch 2nd half.

Sooners looked rough in the first half, and were outplayed. They tightened up the screws in the second half, but they really can't play this way against better teams.

Jeremiah had a couple of bad turnovers in the second half, but he does have the ability to take over games.

The early games are a chance to learn and get better. This team is still learning how to play together. There’s a lot of improvement that can and will happen. They have a chance to be good but there’s much work to do.

wague absolutely has an issue fouling .. but .. he also is very very active .. and brings a lot in his limited Min on the court ..

Nobody wants you to post things you don't think are true or to make up stuff.

But even in your compliments of Fears, it is coupled with a dig at Moser for not starting him.
You always have to be negative even when saying something positive

I am always left wondering why you even follow OU sports, in particular basketball. It obviously doesn't bring you enjoyment anymore

Agreed. At least you know when he is in the game, he can have an impact. I'm sure he is putting in extra time working on his control and reducing the fouls. I really like what I see sans the fouling

Just think how bad off we would be if we didn’t have an excellent starting center and a roster of snipers.
I will admit Godwin has been good on boards but not on scoring this year. Some is on the offense as last year they ran some post up plays for him and seemed to be better at getting passes for layup attempts. Could change as players get better used to where he likes to be in positions and passing the ball. But he has not been involved in offense enough this year to merit my earlier thoughts.

Personally, I don't feel like anyone is capable of knowing how good the team that was recruited could actually be at the moment. Jones hasn't played a game yet. Goodine was solid in the first game and did what he was recruited to do but can he stay healthy? And Nwankwo was a Juco AA that if nothing else would have helped in the athletic department that some are claiming they don't have right now.

Not sure how anyone after two games can say "well this team sucks because of the guys they signed" when two of the guys that were supposed to have an impact on the team haven't played yet.

Goodine started the first game, Jones has been mentioned as a starter or first off the bench type and Nwankwo by all reports (which were very few) was impressing early on and potentially could have been a starter as well.

I get that everyone has injuries and you can't really play the what if game at the end of the year, but two games into the season saying this group might be comparable to a 19 win team without having 2 potentially pretty good pieces seems to be a stretch at the moment.

Very fair, look forward to seeing him in the game.

In a comparison hypothetical...

Mohammad Wague (2 games): 5/6/0 (5 fouls, 10 mins) and 2/2/0 (3 fouls, 12 mins)
Brandon Garrison (2 games): 6/5/3 (4 fouls, 19 min) and 6/4/5 (1 foul, 19 mins)

I am going to hate this "What If" game all year I think. Yes, I know it's different offenses and personnel ... but the assist numbers really stand out to me here.

Game threads are fun.

I noticed someone stopped commenting in the second half
Yes he did. Sitting court side I read the negative comments. Watching on tv you get a different view of the greferees in the first half allowing a lot it aggressive play of hold our players and arm barring the guards. Our players were tentative but the second half turned it around and played just as aggressive. Good game to get get ready for aggressive SEC games.

If anything, Garrison could better reduce the time on court for Sam. Concerned what playing 25-30 minutes is going to do to him in a couple of weeks.

Garrison is much better than Wague. We really needed garrison. Having said that, I don’t think we get Fears if we had already paid Garrison top dollar.

Yeah, his energy, length, and movement are impactful, but they are also part of the problem. I think he needs to slow down just a bit, and that will help his fouling.

For example, on his 1st or 2nd foul, he rushes out to the wing in front of our bench to cover a guard. As he gets up to him, he stands straight up, arms extended, but then begins to body the guard to pick up the foul.

Part of that is not being mentally smart- he's not going to force a steal and he's forced the guard to pick up his dribble. Just defend the passing lane. Part of it is fundamentals and coaching, as he should have been in a proper guarding position. But most of it, or so it seems, is because he's going 110 MPH trying to make something happen and needs to back of the accelerator a bit and play within the game.

He brings something we haven't had on the floor in a while so I'm not ready after two games to say his history is who he is. Excited who he can be just hope the PT in these non-conference games can turn on the light bulb.

An in-control Mo Wague can be a difference-maker off the bench.

I have said this from the beginning....If following something doesn't bring enjoyment, then why bother? Aren't there other things to do?

What if it was something you have followed and loved for 30+, 40+, 50+, and 60+ years. Has brought you joy, connection to family, and feeling like belonging (even if on a message board)? And now, you just have to suffer a bit, bc you either have higher hopes or expectations for what the program is? It is part of being a fanatic. The ride or die for a club or franchise.

Let's not be quick to judge, just because someone is negative doesn't mean they don't have the same passion for the entire reason we are all members, Sooners Basketball. We just have different viewpoints and express them differently.

In life you have to take the bad to enjoy the good. Experience pain to know joy. It is the yin and yang. We just are yinnin' when we want to be yangin'.

Because I am not a bandwagon fan. I have watched and cheered for OU teams for 40 of my 48 years on the planet, and will continue doing that no matter how good or bad we are. By the same token, cheering for a team and supporting a program doesn't mean pretending things are great (or even good) when they aren't, or standing behind coaches who are clearly failing.
