Jessi Murcer’s final shot in a gym she’s not particularly fond of was her biggest.
Westmoore’s star senior doesn’t like how Edmond North’s floor is below crowd level, throwing off her depth perception. The Huskies’ student section rests beside the court and that’s led to some noise through the years.
But she has one great memory to savor.
As time ticked away Tuesday night, Murcer dribbled to the 3-point line, dribbled in and then stepped back for a long two-pointer for a back-breaking blow to Edmond North’s upset bid.
Murcer made the shot with 3.1 seconds remaining to lift No. 7 Westmoore to a 62-60 victory over No. 12 Edmond North at the Huskies’ gym.
“I’ve never liked playing in this gym,” Murcer said. “But Edmond North always gives us a tough game. It was good to come out and get that win on the road.”
Murcer, who has signed with Oklahoma, scored a game-high 25 points and uncharacteristically missed a crucial free throw in the final minute.
That opened the door for Edmond North’s Kamri Heath to hit a jumper with 25 seconds left to tie the game.
After Westmoore called a timeout, there was little doubt who was taking the final shot.
“It’s for her to create and see what she sees,” Westmoore coach Andrea Guziec said. “She had an opening and she’s a shooter and she shot the ball. It went in and I’m proud of her.”
