Got there early and watched the entire thing. Very entertaining.

First, the were handing out flyers on the mini packs. Guys and gals, it is a really good deal. If you aren't season ticket holder, you should look at it. I'm getting 3 of them.

Second, Buddy, Woodard, Walker and Lattin are markedly improved in my opinion. Couldn't really tell a difference with Spangler and Cousins. They all looked very good.

Third, Lattin will be hard to beat out at the 5. If Manyang is good enough to do it, then he is pretty good.

Fourth, Manyang and Odomes look like the real deal just standing around, but will have to wait to see them before expressing an opinion. Their not playing was the only bummer of the day.

Fifth, McNease will be an able back up at the 5. Not much of an outside shot, but otherwise, I was surprised with out good he looked.

Sixth, Chris James has very good handles and defended well, and he will provide good depth this year. Not a great outside shooter as far as I could tell. But, he seemed good at going to the basket in traffic. Strongly built but still real agile.

seventh, Buford is the real deal and will be hard to keep off the court this year. Don't know what position they will play him at, but he is an impressive athlete and lights out shooter from the three point line. I would like to have seen what he could do with the ball down on the block, but he just never got it there so we will have to wait. At least early on, I don't see him being a guy that will dribble penetrate and take people off the dribble to the rim, but maybe later. Really good player in my opinion. It will be interesting to see what Lon does with him.

There was a herd of recruits there. I don't know who was who, but several were really tall.

And lastly, I was disappointed that there weren't more people there. I guess it was early and there was a football game later.

Going to be good IMO.

It is extremely promising to hear that Woodard, Walker and Lattin are noticeably improved.

Thanks! McNease is doing a good job in practice. Lattin may have an unexpected battle for minutes. Agree with Buford is going to play but where will be fun to find out.

Are you saying that McNease is going to take some of Lattin's minutes?

That's not happening. If Jamuni gets minutes, they won't be Lattin's.

Good recap and thanks for taking the time to post it. It's appreciated.

I just want to make a point about Christian James. I think he's sometimes the forgotten man among the newcomers. Following his junior year, he was rated the #1 shooting guard in Texas. He then had a great AAU season before the freak accident that cost him his senior season. The guy is very athletic and has the strength to contribute immediately. He had a D1 body after his HS junior year. He may be still knocking some rust off, but he may work his way into the rotation this year. He's a good player.

Watch this clip of him after his junior year and remember he's had 18 months to futher develop: Christian James: Junior Year Mix

Where are Lattins minutes?

I think he'll get a few more than last year, but that still leaves a bunch to be had

My reference point is not last year. It is this year, where it appears he is running with the starters.

It's important to mention that most improved from what we saw at the scrimmage goes to Dinjyl Walker. He actually looked like the MVP of the scrimmage. Good shooting stroke, finishing in traffic, drawing fouls, and attacking from the wing.

Yes it is very possible at the center position that McNease will play a bunch. Starting isn't out of the question. This news surprised me too. Who knows Lattin may pick up the pace in practice soon. He also may be more of a gamer than practice player.

Interesting. I hope it's because McNease is tearing it up and not because of anything Lattin's not doing..

My take on the scrimmage is that this year's edition is the Buddy and Cousins show. The team won't go any further than those two take them. The supporting cast is pretty good. But, they are the supporting cast.

They have to get some low post scoring to keep the defense from concentrating on them too much. I hope Buford, Woodard, McNeese, Lattin, and Spangler can all get some points in the paint because that will really help those guys.

CBB is a guards game.

Thanks for the report Cowboy.

Agree completely with Gary. We will likely only go as far as Buddy and cousins take us.

However, the jump hook and turnaround shots by Lattin late in the scrimmage looked repeatable and took me by surprise. So, maybe there some offense there. And, it will be interesting to see where Buford fits in. He can score and if he gets the minutes, he might provide some offense. And, Walker will score more than he did last year, and looked to be much more consistent with his 3pt shot.

Otherwise, it will likely be a little here and there from everyone else.

I like Walker because he is fearless.

Very encouraging news on walker. Last year! Would be a great story if he could win some games for this team this year coming off the bench as a SR.

I think he will be a guy that will come in and help win some games. Certainly will compete and if he can get his 3 ball working then he can put up double digits in a hurry. Was pleasantly surprised with his defense last year as well.
