My Take On the Team

You will probably never see a second team come in en mass, IMO. Most good coaches usually keeps a mixture of more experienced players mixed with less experienced, starters with back-ups; leadership on the court so you can get productive experience for the second team, and hopefully provide and develop better leadership of your starters. Hopefully this keeps team play sharp. That is why team play gets so ragged at the end of blowouts, with all back-ups in there.
I would rather see development using this method, as I have seen it be very productive-of course at a high school level. It would still allow us to use lots of players, and be fresh the whole game.

I lived in Alabama for 2 years back in the 70s. I went to an Alabama football game and was amazed in the first quarter when the Tide drove down the field and when they got to about the 15 yard line, Bear Bryant pulled his staters and ran the second team in who scored a TD. I thought then what a boost that would give the players on the second team when the coach had enough confidence in them to get the job done. Not sure the starters thought much of the idea though. :)

did that work? if not, just know that OU is tied for first and Baylor is solely last in the Big 12 right now. :)

Norm, your suggested platoons would be interesting to watch. I would bet your second platoon would be far better on defense and your first platoon better on offense.

Essentially, Kentucky (boys) is platooning right now. They have more Mickey Dee all americans on their second team than most teams have on their roster over a decade.

With Maddie, LaNesia, and Derica on the second team, it may well be better offensively. Getting Maddie and LaNesia and spreading the floor for Derica makes more ball movement in and out than your first unit has. I'm not so sure that Treece won't be better this year than Kay Kay. She was pretty good against Lamar.

The first unit has the names, but they don't move the ball inside very well, which is what keeps the score down early. By midseason, I just wouldn't bet on which team would win.

Whose team gets Vivi? She is another force to be reckoned with.

My thinking is, a 5 player rotation would keep everyone fresh throughout the game, it would build continuity within each platoon, it would give the second unit a reason to want to out-perform the first unit, it would build depth, and it would solve any substituting issues to which Sherri has admitted.
