According to the announcers, Nancy had 22 points and 14 rebounds. At one point, they said she had four blocked shots. She probably blocked about eight to ten after that. Cy Woods won 79-60. They had a ten-point lead in the first half, but lost it when Nancy went to the bench with two fouls. It was tied at the half, 38-38.

Cy Woods is two different teams. With Nancy in the game, they are a flowing offense. Nancy split time at high and low post. In the second half, she spent more time at the low post. But, they really have difficulty getting it to her. They don't pass well. They tried passing low when they could have just thrown it over the defense. She is every bit of 6-9, maybe more. She dwarfed a 6-2 forward.

When she was at the high post, they flowed nicely. Nancy drew the defense out a bit, and the middle was pretty much open. At low post, it wasn't so open. They were determined not to let Nancy get it low. When she gets it low, it is a layup every time. She doesn't miss.

She wasn't always under the basket for a rebound. They do have Reese, a very good freshman who is 6-2. She is a pretty good rebounder, and they had another girl who could rebound. When Nancy did go under the basket, she usually got the ball. When she wants it, she takes it. The best part is that she is very good at outlet passes. Ogwumike scores on layups after being fed by outlet passes by Mulkey. Ogwumike can also shoot a little, but she is a bit of a ball hog. Nancy also probably got about four or five putbacks. She did miss some short three to five foot jumpers. But, she was probably about ten of twelve from the field. She hit a couple of free throws.

She is a pretty good athlete. She can block two or three shots in a row from different locations. She seems to know how to use her hands for that. She is pretty accurate on blocking shots. She moves well around the lane.

She actually was the first down on a couple of fast breaks, but Ogwumike lost the ball before she could get it to Mulkey. She can move down court pretty well when she wants. She also hit a couple of fifteen foot jumpers with a nice touch.

Without Nancy, CY Woods loses this game. The others aren't bad, but they are not dominant. Nancy does dominate. Both teams know exactly who is the dominant force on the court. CyWoods outscored them by 29 with her on the court and lost by ten when she was on the bench.

Cy Woods has three starters back next year: Mulkey, Reese, and a guard. They may be just as good next year, even though one guard will be at Pepperdine and the other at Tulsa.

I think Nancy will be All-Conference as a freshman.

Thanks for the report Syb. I'm hoping to catch the Championship tomorrow
On Fsn. I can't wait to see how Nancy continues to develop over the years.

The state title game will be on FoxSportsSW tonight at 8:30, just about the time that OU's game is over. That is UVerse 753 in Dallas.

I'm off to watch the title game. I want to see her on a screen bigger than my computer.

I thought the second foul was missed. But, she did the same thing last night, and didn't get a foul in the second half.

Mulkey fouled out with about three minutes left. Played about 14 of the 32 minutes due to foul trouble. The last two foul calls on her were bad, the last really bad.

With her in the game, CyWoods outscored Skyline by about 22. With her on the bench, Skyline outscored CyWoods by about 15. I think Cy Woods won by seven. Nancy had only about four points and maybe eight rebounds, a couple of blocks.

Mulkey, Reese, and Williams will be back next year. I think Perez and Ogwumike graduate.

For a freshman, Kate Reese really impressed me. Ogwumike is good, but kind of a ball hog. I really liked that pull up jumper that Nancy made coming down the floor. The girl has some range. She needs to get a little stronger, but her ceiling is high. What little she got to play, I see a lot of potential. She has good feet and moves well in the paint. Congratulations to her and her Cy Woods team mates on the State Championship.

You could see her more last night when the officials didn't screw it up as bad. She will never be strong, but her calves indicate that she is plenty strong enough. She is bigger than people think. She also has control over her body, unlike a lot of tall girls. She has a nice touch around the basket which didn't come across tonight.

I will be interested to see if they aren't actually better next year with Reese, Williams, and Mulkey with another couple of guards. Ogwumike had 25 points. But, she also shot a lot, and a lot of those shots hurt. She also drove into places and got stripped. She also had four walking calls. If she had driven into the lane and dumped it to Reese or Mulkey, their offense would have been better. But, they have some guards who love to shoot---and turn the ball over. Totally unnecessary when you have control of the interior.

Ogwumike is headed to Pepperdine. Perez (I think that was her name) is headed to Tulsa. But, I think with Mulkey and Reese, a guard who can just manage the game is sufficient.

Nancy plays soft right now but hopefully she works hard over the next year and becomes stronger and a lot more dominate.

I saw the same thing as you Norm... glad she's been putting up big numbers tho... But at 6'9 with a consistent free throw jumper she'll be hard to guard... Mulkey also moves pretty fast I think she'll get buckets just running the floor rim to rim...

For those that saw the game, do you think she will be able to dunk in a college game, once she enrolls?

Maybe by her JR year, but Mulkey will start off her career in the high post for sure...

Does Maddie know about her?

After watching her for two games, I don't know. I wonder how high she can reach just standing still. She appears to be a little more than 6-9. She is more athletic than some think. She can lead the fast break, and she has the quickness to block different shots on different sides of the lane within seconds.
I saw nothing that said that she was trying to show off. From interviews that I have seen with Perez and Ogwumike, she actually seems to defer to her teammates to show off their skills.

I have seen no indication of how high she can jump. Her legs are not skinny. She seems to be able to reach for rebounds above the rim. If she can do that, she may well be able to dunk. But, I get the feeling from her play that she has been well-trained by her mother and aunt to do what wins rather than what looks neat. The difference in the score when she is in the game vs when she is on the bench is overwhelming. If she has a problem that showed up in the finals, it is that she has to learn that she doesn't have to block every shot. She alters the shots just by coming near.

I suspect that we may find that she can dunk. I don't know if she will.

I've only seen the videos but she seems a bit stiff. I'd be interested to know how she moves in general and not just running up and down the court. How is she on defense? And hopefully she'll put on some weight as well as strength.

Don't underestimate her strength. She looks thin because she is 6-9, or taller. So did Wilt. Her legs look pretty strong. Her arms are thin. But, I've seen her rip rebounds away from people.

She does look stiff. But, she really doesn't play stiff. On several occasions, she would be involved in a scramble for a rebound or a loose ball, and she can get on the floor with the best of them. In one video, she blocked about three shots in a row on different sides of the court which takes some ability to move from side to side and change direction quickly. Well, she did that on Friday night as well.

I think she will be a defensive presence from day one at OU. There may be a tendency to call fouls on her since she is so visible. A lot will be mistakes. She really doesn't foul which seems strange since she was in foul trouble all weekend. I think the officials noticed her. They didn't call fouls on those guarding her. Well, they did once on Friday.

She is not a big, immobile girl. I think she will make plays on both sides of the court better than Kay Kay who some consider quite athletic (myself included). But, she can do it without moving a lot. She can reach both sides of the lane without moving.

She comes from a basketball family. Her mother holds records at Georgia Tech. I think they know what to do. I see a lot more fluidity in her movements in recent videos compared to her sophomore year.

If you watch one or two plays, you don't see that training. I think her mother and aunt have taught her well. The only problems that I have seen with her movement is that I don't know that I've seen her stand up straight. She does when necessary, but seems to have a tendency to bend her shoulders.
