I wanted to get a good look at Nancy, since she's committed to OU.

I know that she doesn't arrive on campus for some time, but I wanted to get a look at the raw product, although I don't know how raw a prospect can be after being selected for, and playing well for a US national team.

Nancy is very slender. If I was advising her I think I'd suggest a program to add at least 30-40 pounds of muscle weight before she arrives on campus. She won't be able to survive the physicality of the Big 12 if she doesn't bulk up a bit.

Second, I think she might have the longest wingspan I've ever seen in a women's player. Even if she doesn't become an offensive dynamo for the Sooners, you cannot overlook her likelihood of becoming a truly elite rebounder and shot blocker.

In my opinion, we have a winner.

She is a bit misleading. Look at her legs. She is not skinny. She is pretty well-muscled. I don't know that you'll ever put much weight on her upper body until she reaches forty.

I've now seen her play in two games. I don't think the physicality of the Big Twelve will be a problem. She often just jerks the ball away, and she is not afraid of contact. Remember that her mother and aunt were college stars and almost as tall. They have trained her well. She uses her body well. Despite the foul calls, which were bogus, she is able to make blocks without fouling. Excellent hands, like Courtney, on just taking the ball out of the air. She will be a real problem to shoot over on defense, a real problem.

If you remember, Griner couldn't shoot when she arrived at Baylor. Mulkey may be our best free throw shooter. I haven't seen her miss one yet. She also has a very nice shot from about the free throw line. In the title game, she had nobody to pass to when she got a rebound. Everyone left her that was open. So, she dribbled the ball up court to the top of the key and stopped, launching a three. Swish. She can shoot, and she is an excellent passer. If we have someone on the inside with her, she may end up at the high post on offense, shooting from the free throw line or passing to someone under the basket.

She is ready now. She will be better.

+1. If she is going to be an elite player, packing on the muscle will be required. Right now, she is a taller version of Nicole Griffin. We need for her to be a taller version of someone like Leah Rush.

Or Caton Hill.

Has anyone other than me actually seen her play?

Syb, you saw exactly what I saw. I have seen her twice also. She has very soft hands. Pretty good feet and will get even better with another year. She positions herself well on the post. I was surprised how well she shot the ball away from the basket. Excellent free throw shooter and anticipates for block shots. She tries to block and keep the ball in play, instead of being a show off like Griner knocking it into the seats. At this point in her basketball life, she is already better than Nicole was as a college freshman. Nancy will be able to play the high or low post with equal efficiency.

I don't think Mulkey is much like Griffin at all. She's much more versatile than any big over 6'6 that I've seen in a while, if ever. That versatility will pay off. I do think she needs to develop more in the low post. She will be going up against the likes of Kalani Brown and Beatrice Mompremier at Baylor, so she needs to get ready for the physicality.

I didn't mean they have the same type of game but they are both tall and both need more muscle. As you mentioned, Baylor has a couple of girls coming who will play physical. Right now Nancy does not play physical but with 25-30 pounds of muscle, I believe she could.

I'm watching the Texas - Cal game, and Imani McGee-Stafford is quite slim, but if you look at her upper body, shoulders, and arms, she is clearly very muscular and strong. Stafford just does not look easily pushed around. Of course Nancy will be a few inches taller - so much the better.

Nancy can be muscular in the same way, and may be approaching that to hear Syb describe her.
