I watched the first episode of "My Giant Life". It's a series that will feature Nancy every Tuesday at 9. She is one of 3 women featured. The other 2 are in their early 20s (I think, I mostly fast-forwarded their segments)
Oklahoma wasn't mentioned. She was talking about the benefits of being tall and said basketball is the most important one. She said she wouldn't have nearly as many opportunities if she were shorter and she "has received a scholarship". I could imagine TLC preventing her from naming the specific school.
Overall it was pretty enlightening. As you can imagine, Nancy and her family seem like terrific people. Her mom is 6'7", her older brother is 7'0", and her younger brother (16) is 7'3". Her stepdad is shorter than 6'0" and is obviously dwarfed in the household. Her younger brother's name is junior and I googled Junior Mulkey to see if he plays basketball as well, but all the results are just Nancy-related.
As awkward as high school years are, they are 10x more awkward for Nancy. They showed several shots of her trying to squeeze into high school desks, classmates walking by her, people gawking at her in public, strangers taking pictures of her, etc. She said she's never had a boyfriend because every boy is significantly shorter than her and she's afraid she won't be asked to the prom (let alone find a dress that fits). Unloading the dishwasher is difficult in the Mulkey home because it's too low and all the blood rushes to their heads.
She did say something along the lines of "The only time I'm comfortable with my height is when I'm playing basketball. When I'm off the basketball court, all of that confidence magically disappears."
