I'm not very good with numbers, but I believe that would be tied for 9th.

All 8 teams ahead of us and the two tied with us have won titles since 1983. Damn Kansas.

If Buddy comes back, next year will be our best shot ... I thought we could do it with Blake, but we were a guard short.

Only 3 Big-12 teams on that list.
Only 3 teams from the former Big-8 Conference.

OU basketball has been Big Time for a long time.

Because it made OU look better.

'85 is the best barometer

They went with '83 because that marked the latter-day arrival of OU hoops. Aside from a one-off appearance in 1979, we hadn't been in the (then much-smaller) tourney since 1947.

We don't know if it made OU look better; we don't know how those other teams numbers would have been impacted if they'd gone with '85. I understand the thinking behind going with '85; it's certainly a legitimate starting point. But from an OU point-of-view, 1983 was a key year and the start of a whole new chapter in Sooner hoops. It's not unreasonable to start there.

Going back to '83 puts OU ahead of teams like Michigan State and Pitt, and gets OU a little closer to KU (KU missed the tournament in in '83). It's definitely a little sleight of hand, but whether you go with '83 or '85 the point of the graphic remains. OU has quietly been a very good basketball school over the years.

Maybe the best to never win it all. #*$%ing Danny Manning

As of a couple of years ago OU was also 5th all time with 5 #1 seeds. Probably one or two spots lower today.
