What has come over ESPN??????????? Women's basketball is on 3 channels tonight in the 6:00 time slot. ESPN2, ESPN News and ESPNU.

They're trying to make up for not having coverage of the men's NCAA Tournament.

Well they have to slobber over Baylor and ND and they can't ignore Delaware anymore. I remember last night when they were promoing the games they didn't even mention Stanford. Really?

Yes, the women's tourney has become all about Griner, Delle Donne and Diggins. Very little about teams or team play. One writer recently suggested that Griner is the biggest player, men or women, this year. This is exactly why Hypocrite U will be in the finals period. That's why "Griner don't foul" or at least isn't called for it so she will draw a TV audience in the semis and finals.

Although it's good to have stars to help promote your game I've always felt that as far as the women go it was about the team. This isn't the NBA where you need to sell jerseys and what not. It's great to focus on the talent but, IMO, it's still the teams that are the story. If they can have games on three channels tonight then why not Sunday and yesterday? And I'm not saying this just from an OU perspective. NU had a great win last night and I don't think they were on in the KC area. And you talk about Delaware but how many times have they been on this year? Even a really good team like Stanford with Little Sister seems to never be showcased. And this isn't any anti Baylor bias on my part.

These nuts still think that turning Jordan into a superstar saved the NBA. They still don't realize that it only saved Nike.

By the time Jordan was a big star Magic and Bird had done all the saving necessary. I'm old enough to remember Dr J and Walton in the finals on tape delay and all of the drugs.

Is there some sort of logic that I am missing behind having the same game on ESPN2 and ESPNU?

I'm glad they did! ESPNU is a premium channel on my Cox package, and I don't have it. ESPN and ESPN2 are part of the basic package in Norman.

Interesting choice of quote. Via Wikipedia:

The attribution to Bernard is due to John of Salisbury. In 1159, John wrote in his Metalogicon

Bernard of Chartres used to say that we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size.

I could see OU beating UT Vols. I just hope Louisville can shock Baylor. OU is going to need Sooner Majic to make the final four. Griner is getting better.

Although it is unlikely that Baylor will get beat again this year, anything is possible. Foul trouble, poor shooting, or an opponent that is red hot could send them home. It takes some luck to win a NC...Baylor's luck could run out at any point.

I hope you're right, Norm, but I have to squint really hard to envision Baylor getting beat. Like tycat wrote in an above post, when you play Baylor you don't just have to beat Griner and the rest of the Bears, you've also got to beat the zebras. That's a tall order for any team.

‘Funny how a myth has developed here that the women’s basketball referees are somehow in cahoots with the Big 12 and the NCAA in declaring that Britney Griner doesn’t foul, or at least doesn’t foul out. Surely these organizations and all of those referees have much stronger ethics than to allow anything like that from occurring. If not, someone somewhere would have stepped up to expose the collusion. With various posters on this board constantly harping about ethics, why hasn’t someone sought to expose this tremendous problem? Most likely because it doesn’t exist.

Some argue that Kim Mulkey has the officials intimidated. All of them? That takes a real stretch of the imagination. As a coach, she has the right to make comments to the officials about the flow of the game. If she does it better than others, that’s what makes her a more successful coach.

I’ve seen Griner play in dozens of games, and know that she rarely fouls. On offense, she plays with the ball over the heads of her opponents and has no need to foul in order to score. On defense, her major role is that of shot blocker (with the associated fear factor). Usually, she is not an aggressive rebounder and rarely battles for the ball. Pope and Williams usually out rebound her, despite her obvious height advantage. Yes, she made a few big mistakes several years ago, but has long since outgrown those tendencies. Griner is the real thing, not someone made outstanding with the aid of the officials.

Amazing talent she has to hold the ball over her head with one hand and throw an opponent to the floor with the other. MMA can't wait to sign her.
