New Tramel article with Evans quotes addressing his inexperience

I would LOVE to hire Evans. You do have to get past public perception...my counter to that is to get and pay a top assistant with D-1 head coaching experience. You announce the hiring of Terry Evans and this assistant at the same time. Maybe you can get a Paul Hewitt (the former Georgia Tech head coach) for example as assistant?

I think we all just need to see UCO play our current team in a scrimmage. If UCO wins, hire Evans.

I would hire Evans over all other names currently being mentioned, sans the Butler coach.

No disrespect to Coach Evans, but UCO is not a Top 150 school amongst Division I programs. I do agree with him that when it comes to backcourt players, there isn't much difference between the bad low-majors and Division II schools. With that said, the frontcourt differences are night and day. My Junior College team played a Division II school in a scrimmage (one that will soon be in UCO's conference I believe) and we crushed them. Mainly because our frontcourt was physically superior.

The D-II guards are comparable, without a doubt. Now, some of those guards are in Division II due to academic restrictions, so the talent is there, they just can't qualify.

Love Evans' passion for OU and he's going about it the right way by selling himself through the media, fans and message board posters are all over this idea now.

does anybody else get the feeling that Evans isn't the humblest of men from his quotes? I like his passion but he makes it seem like he is entitled to the job

I got the same feeling. Especially the quote about him if he was coaching at Tulsa.

Name 25 top Div 1 coaches listing them from humblest to least humble. See if you can come up with more than 3 who are "the humblest of men."

I mentioned in one of the other threads that we have played them in one of the exhibitions before. It was much closer than expected and it wasnt as bad as this OU team is either. Same with OSU, the team with James Anderson and such. UCO played it really close.

Bo Ryan won four D3 NCAA Championships before he did a two-year stint at UW-Mil and then landed the Wisconsin job. Let's let Terry at least win ONE championship or season himself at a midmajor before handing him this job just because he is passionate about it.

Anybody else get the feeling that this "Terry Evans media tour" has been calculated to warm up the fanbase prior to him being named head coach?

I don't know where his team ranks...but I will say that he has the best player in the state on his roster. D. Williams would start for OU, OSU, Tulsa, and ORU.

I like Terry, but maybe he should start out at mizxou st.

Evans has more experience than Brad Stevens did when he started out. I am not saying the end result will be the same or that I would rather have Evans than Stevens, but who knows what he would do at OU. He has a good attitude and wants to be here. Those two things could make him very successful.

If the report is true that Terry interviewed with Joe C, then we will have to trust Joe's judgment on the deal. Why? Because he is going to make the decision, not us.

That being said. Joe has hired a lot of coaches. Most have been good hires. Some not so good.

Joe C should be able to judge the mettle of Terry as a man and as a coach by talking to him. It would make a great story for Terry to get the job and succeed. Joe C has to make a call on how likely that would be.

Say whatever you want about the guy but he has been a winner all his life.
Humble, schmumble! I want a confident coach on the court.

I went to UCO's final tournament game, they only had one post who struck me as a guy who could play for OU this year. And thats only because this was one of the weakest post teams in recent history at OU. I honestly didn't think that they had a player who could match up with Fitz one on one inside. Fitz would go to work on them down low.

Now they had a guard or two that compete and play for OU, but I really don't buy all the UCO talent hype.

Put me in the "Enough with the media campaigning, Coach Evans" camp. Who's he trying to convince? He had his three hours with Joe C.; he should keep the politicking behind closed doors.
