In wish all the candidates would make their case in public
I went to UCO's final tournament game, they only had one post who struck me as a guy who could play for OU this year. And thats only because this was one of the weakest post teams in recent history at OU. I honestly didn't think that they had a player who could match up with Fitz one on one inside. Fitz would go to work on them down low.
Now they had a guard or two that compete and play for OU, but I really don't buy all the UCO talent hype.
Evans has more experience than Brad Stevens did when he started out. I am not saying the end result will be the same or that I would rather have Evans than Stevens, but who knows what he would do at OU. He has a good attitude and wants to be here. Those two things could make him very successful.
So you must have seen Evans' coaching blunder by playing Williams with four fouls. Like I said, the really good D-II guards can compete with the low level teams in Division I. The post game isn't comparable though, very few of those guys can bang with the big boys of Division I (let alone the Big XII).
Love his enthusiasm, but he just compared his program to a top 100-150 team in Division I...let that sink in for a moment. Evans thinks his squad is on the level of North Texas, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Oregon, South Florida, Stanford, Texas Tech.
And he has ONE Elite Eight, had a chance at a second this year but lost to the #6 seed in his region ON HIS HOME FLOOR.
I'm not saying he isn't a good coach, but why offer him now? What has he done to deserve the job?
He was a poor manager end game, it was ridiculous. He started fouling with a good 3 minutes left in a 4-6 point game. He didn't do much to endorse my vote based off that game.
I really think Evans would be a successful recruiter regional, but his bench coaching is what scares me. After watching Capel coach on the bench from the last two years I am desperate to see OU have a guy who knows what he is doing on the sidelines.
There are many concerns I have, chief among them those talked about here. I am also frankly not convinced he will be able to recruit. He should be fine in Oklahoma, but other than that, I don't know. He has never recruited anywhere else, basically.
The positives he would bring are apparent. The team would have and play with a clear identity and his enthusiasm for the job is obvious. He is also a very bright guy and despite not being gregarious people who know him say he is extremely niceand affable. I am not 100% opposed to hiring him but I think it would be a humongous risk.
It would be crucial that he put together a top-notch coaching staff, both for recruiting and for game management. I wonder who would be possibilities. SoonerDAZE threw cold water on the Jeff Webster idea.

The thing that gets me is you all watch one game and are experts.
The thing that gets me is you all watch one game and are experts. And how many interviews has he done 2? Really campaigning...you bash people for not wanting the job then criticize someone who does. He is extremely humble, but he loves OU. I guess that is why you all are posters with opinions.
And as far as the D-II player is concerned, playing a team that is D-II is not like playing the team Terry coaches. I could say I played D-I Providence and it is nothing like playing a team in the same conference. (poor comparison)
Wish there was more film, I love his coaching style but prove that I know the guy and I am biased. I trained with him and watched him coach from the bench. Just watch more than one game before you go around talking like you know his style of coaching. Everyone has a bad game...I mean geez he was 30-4.
Does anyone else get the impression that Tramel is sleep walking 24/7/365?
Terry, is that you?
Terry, is that you?
Put me in the "Enough with the media campaigning, Coach Evans" camp. Who's he trying to convince? He had his three hours with Joe C.; he should keep the politicking behind closed doors.
