Newcomers submit positive performance in exhibition win

I was very pleased with the performance of our newcomers. Doolittle and McGusty in particular showed why the staff and others who have seen them play say they will be a star someday. Freeman did not disappoint in his ability to shoot from distance. He has special skills for someone his size.

Strong was the biggest surprise to me. I watched his videos and read every article I could find when he signed with OU, so I was hoping he would step right in as a back up at the point this season. Now, I'm certain he can do it. If he continues to improve and avoids further issues with his back, I expect him to be an important part of our rotation by conference time.

One thing I know for sure, this is a very confident group of newbies. They may be freshmen or in their first season at the D-1 level, but they definitely don't play like it. There is nothing timid or shy about this bunch of newcomers!

I loved what I saw from the new guys. I see so much potential in McGusty, Doolittle, Freeman, and even Shepherd (although I think he got a little overwhelmed). Personally, I would like to redshirt Shepherd. I think Strong should be more than capable of backing up JW. There was some careless ball handling and perimeter shooting was off a bit off but I really like this group. You must have good pieces to begin with and the process of fitting these pieces together over the season will be fun to watch.
