Next Year

I'm pretty sure that it was Cal that she was going to commit, then OU was a last minute visit.

I know Stanford recruited her hard bay but would you agree Stanford would have won at least 1 NC if Drob want there. Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't it Ashley who told the coaching staff about Drob if so we need to hire her has a recruiting coach

Gileysa Penzo is a sleeper. Mark my words.

I don't know, I was told she isn't that quick. Guards today need to be quick enough to defend and to be able to drive. I hope she is but I do have reservations.

I wonder if DRob has ever thought about coaching when her playing days are over.

Are you referring to her statement that her sister is quicker. Penzo is 16 and made the All-Star team at a U-19 tournament, along with Cox, Durr, etc.

No, I heard it from a guy who has seen her play.

I think should be a great coach along with Whitney and Ashley. Maybe she pull a Ivory Latta she is currently an assistant coach for UNC still plays in the wnba in the summer.

This season is lost even if make the tournament we a first round exit. Who would y'all like to see in the starting lineup outside of Sharane it's wide open.

The tread title make us sound like OSU "next year". Please stop.

Everybody except OU recruited DRob, but she was basically going to commit to CAL before the 11th hour approach by SC. Her high school coach had been on the CAL coaching staff in previous years. Stanford made it to the FF every year of DRob's college days. They should have won a NC one of the five consecutive years of FF's whether or not DRob was with them. They've won twice before but not of late (1992 was the last NC). On a more relative point...OU should've won in 2009 if not before; at least once.

And yes...Ashley Paris guided the coaches to DRob. They didn't even know about her. AP and CP would make great coaches for different reasons. I saw them on the AAU circuit, middle and high school teams for years. They are charismatic and passionate about the game. You'd have to know how competitive the AP/CP and Alexis Gray Lawson/Devonae Hampton rivalry was from the time they were in the 7th grade. Before long AGL and DH joined club forces with the twins and won everything. All four were McDonald's AA. AO credits CP with helping her to become a better player.

"She was one of the Paris twins favorite players during their days as prepsters in Northern California and someone that Ashley Paris advised the coaching staff to recruit."

"I was watching her and asked somebody, ‘who is that'? They said, ‘Danielle Robinson' and I said ‘where is she going' and they said ‘oh she's undecided' and I said, ‘man, she's fast'!"

You are 100% correct Stanford should had won at least one NC during there their five consecutive FF run. The biggest reason why they didn't is because there guards couldn't handle pressure(A&M press Stanford like it was no tomorrow). It's safe say if Stanford had Drob their biggest weakness would've been solved. There no question in my mind Stanford would of won it in 2011 if Drob was on there team. I always said Maryland won our NC in 06.

Agreed. We should have won in 2006.

YES! OU should've had it in 2006 and 2009...and possibly in between because the recruiting should have been different. The recruiting dilemma has had a domino affect and still haunting us.

A little trivia that some might remember...Sa'de Wiley Gatewood (Maryland via Tennessee) took an official visit to OU before signing with Maryland. She was with Summit and TN for 1.5 years before heading to Maryland as a transfer. Imagine if she had plaiyed the point for OU.

"She's not really interested in visiting a lot of schools, he said. "She's not wide-open. She just wants to see if she fits in with (the Sooners) and likes (Norman).

Why did she not sign with OU? Did not fit in? Lack of interest by coaches? other? Do former players help much in referring prospects? On a post ny a person who posts under the name HighPlainsDrifter on Soonertimes says a WBB donor told them the team is having trouble getting former players back for fundraising efforts. Anyone familiar with this? Sorry for so many questions.

The players come back all the time.

If you will remember, Gatewood was apparently a problem. She didn't star anywhere she went.

She would have been better off at OU and vice-versa, but obviously decided not to come after the official visit. Coaches are typically very interested, ready to sign the recruit and done enough research if they go as far to invite a recruit/transfer on an official visit. The recruit does not get an official visit unless an offer has been made.

Maryland...It was going to be hard to displace Toliver and Doron, but Gatewood did very well when she was in the game. I remember key plays by her to beat UCONN in the last seconds of a game.

And relative to this thread...the lack of consistent strategic recruiting of top 10 players beyond the 2005 has caused us to be in the position we're in now...wondering about next year and this year is not done.

EDIT: And...she was not only a "star" when she arrived at Tennessee, but a very gifted point guard and quite humble based on what I remember. She was injured when she arrived at Summit Land, sat out about 1/2 the season and the surgery was performed AFTER helping them to get to the FF. Remember, CParker was injured and a redshirt that year as well. They had signed about 5 McDonald AA's (SWG, CParker, Hornbuckle, ...) and SWG was definitely tagged to be their starting PG. She committed to Tennessee when she was in the 7th or 8th grade. Some of us bay area fans wondered why we never saw Summit at a Piedmont (Paris twins) or Oakland Tech (AGL and DH) high school game and learned that they only had one scholarship for the 2005 class. I know my CA girls basketball players and SWG...she's still the best PG that ever played in the state. I find it very unusual for her to have taken an official visit to OU, her dad (a coach) tells OKNews that she's basically heading to OU, then she lands in Maryland after the visit. I think her high school resume speaks for itself. The injury changed everything it appears...

These are the types of players that OU has had on their campus and never signed. What kind of "problem" could she be? Not getting enough turnovers?

Wiley Gatewood was not a good fit for OU, she wanted to be the star player where ever she went.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. SWG always made her teams better, a great leader and was very unselfish throughout high school. She wanted to play with AP/CP at OU. It also would have improved recruiting CA players.
