Non-Conference Schedule Released!

BYU might be pretty good. I wonder if Kentucky has had too many defections? Cal might be solid.

Forgot about KY. Wonder if they will have enough players to put a team on the court??? Little Rock will be decent too. Xavier used to be pretty good but haven't paid attention lately and SD State is usually a decent mid-major. Cal has good players.

They have Epps and Akhator. But, they only have eight.

Over all I think the staff could have put together a more difficult schedule...

Should go undefeated in non-conference--easy schedule--maybe three good games. Little Rock down this year.

We don't need a schedule with a bunch of top ten teams this year. We need to find out how to work Nancy, Chelsea, and Morgan into the lineup. We had some underachieving last year on the part of shooters, and we must see if that is corrected. We need time and experience at a new game plan.

I agree. And hopefully build some confidence.

Definitely need some confidence going into conference play where it has been difficult for the Sooners to play with confidence, especially against our three top rivals the last 5 years.

OSU won the series last year 3-2 and over the last 5 years the series record is OU 6, OSU 5. So perhaps Littell is making progress against the Sooners. In the last five seasons the Sooners swept the pukes only once in 2014-15. In the other 4 seasons the pukes lead 5-4.

For the same 5 years we are 6-6 against Texas and 1-10 against Baylor. So over the last 5 seasons we are 13-21 against our top 3 rivals. That is 8 games below .500.

Need to go 10-2 over the next two seasons to get even and we know that is unlikely playing Baylor twice a season. In fact it will be difficult to impossible for the Sooners to get back to the .500 level against Baylor, Texas and OSU even after the 2020 season (19-11 excluding B12 tournament) to get to a decade (2011-20) record of 32-32.

That tells me Sherri is probably going to have a losing record over the decade against our three leading rivals. Not a Hall of Fame performance in my opinion. Desperately hope I am wrong but we will have to wait to see. If Sherri gets the talent she can do it. But it is what it is regarding signing comparable talent.

Would you rather have our non conference schedule with Tennessee, UCLA, and UCONN? Talk about loaded that's potentially 3 losses before conference play!

I am in the extreme minority, and that's fine, but I have no problem playing those three. We have a fairly experience team, lets see how good we are early. Yes I understand it is potential for 3 losses, but that is why you play the game.

I prefer playing some strong teams. But, I must admit that I think this year's team is in transition. We never did get a system down last year. We missed Gioya, and the team chemistry seemed to take a hit once she returned. We were great in the non-conference from NTS to A&M. Then, we seemed to lose focus and drift. It seemed to me that we only played well together for a few minutes per game, and we were very dependent on individual play.

I would like to see a flow develop in non-conference this year. Will it involved Gioya and Peyton? Will Chelsea come get a lot of time as one sits more? Will we have a high-low with Nancy-Vivi? We can't keep them on the floor together since we have no backups. Will we rotate Maddie with Nancy at the high---or with Vivi at the low if Nancy is high?

I see the need to develop a system around the new players, one that fits what they bring to the table. I think we may have evolved beyond Peyton and Gioya, unless they have also evolved. We seem so much better when they are simply spot shooters. I want to see how Morgan fits.

Experience---yes. We lost one. But, we really need to find a fit.

Last year's team was a bunch of under achievers without a doubt, it will be interesting how this team ends up working together. Are the newbies going to be the future going forward, or will they be a part of mediocrity again. I vote for the future.

I think you have hit our weak spot. We never seemed to find an identity and get into a rhythm. Hot, them cold. Good d, then lackadaisical. We need to find a core group, and use subs around them.

Yep, you nailed it.

I thought it was our "core" of returning starters that let us down. Kay Kay was something like three of fifteen from the field against North Texas, and we were shocked. How does she go three of fifteen against NTS? But, we struggled when she did, and she was inconsistent. When she wasn't scoring, she really contributed nothing. When she was doing well, she did well.

Vivi was more consistent and contributed in doing something even when not scoring. I was very impressed that Vivi learned to shoot free throws. By the end of the year, she was very reliable from the line. She also worked hard everywhere. She kept improving.

I was very disappointed in Gioya and Peyton. Neither shot well, and that was their forte. Peyton was effective as a spot shooter. Occasionally, Gioya would make a play. In general, Gioya made so many mistakes that she was still a freshman. Peyton would disappear in the first half and score twenty in the second. I had the impression that neither was really working to get a shot, to make something happen. It was up to Gabbi or Maddie to find them open by doing something themselves to open everyone up.

If Gabbi, Kay Kay, Peyton, or Gioya were not shooting well, was there a reason to keep them on the floor? Were they fighting for rebounds, steals, or tips? Were they trying to make things happen when they weren't scoring?

I thought we had two difference makers: T'Ona and Maddie. They could be the reason that we scored ten points, none of which they scored. They caused problems and got us the ball. There were times when Maddie would seem to have dominated a half, and we had a good lead. But, she only had four points. She might also have four assists, four steals, four blocks, four tipped balls, and two blocks. We beat a Final Four team on their home court because Maddie and T'Ona made some things happen in the last minute of the game. Their defense took over. T'Ona still can't shoot, and it would help if she learned to shoot free throws.

Somehow, Gabbi, Gioya, and Peyton have to find a way to contribute at all times, not just when they are hot. They don't give us six assists, six rebounds, four steals, a block, and a bunch of tipped balls. They have to play an all-around game, or they must be hot a lot.

Disappointment in our shooting guards has been my primary disappointment over the years. We had Whitney as a freshman. We've seen flashes from others. But, we just haven't had the one scorer step up, especially in key games.

I would like to see us have a core-not starters, but players we can count on to be somewhat consistent every game. If that is just 3 players, ok. or 6. Ever how many come and play hard all the time they are on the court. I would start with T'Ona, Maddie, and ViVi. Start whomever practices better, or occasionally whomever team match-up appears to dictate. Play your core players plus keep playing those players who produce, and hustle all out. Shooters are not always on-but screens, rebounds, hard nose defense, assists without turnovers, alert play at all times can be and should be the decider-not "potential". Players may play or start, and not produce-done for the night. We have a deep bench, and SHOULD use it to not only produce competition, but the knowledge that if you don't go all out on the court, offense and defense, you will sit a LOT.
