Now that Madie's out

Walsh might be right...most coaches may play primarily a zone defense.

Did anyone notice if we played a lot of zone in the scrimmage?

We played primarily man...don't recall seeing any zone (but by then I was too depressed over Maddie's knee to have my full focus).

I think Walz was mostly being defensive since his team's mugging of Griner was clearly a large part of the video about what they are trying to stop.

That is another point on who should benefit...teams with a good low post scorer.

Thanks Cuda! You make some good points about Griner and the need for a great post player.

No doubt it will take all teams some time to adjust to the way games are being called.

I found a site with the official release from the NCAA regarding physicality:

To me it will especially interesting how refs call the game the last two minutes. As we all know they have a tendency to put their whistles in their pocket at game's end which is not fair to the players.

The new rules regarding illegal contact adamantly state they are to put a whistle on illegal contact regardless of time or score. I would submit that they will continue to allow more contact at game's end than earlier in the game despite the explicit instructions to do otherwise.
