is that we can all (vast, vast majority) now finally agree that Kelvin Sampson is a heckuva coach and did a superb job here. I miss him and would pick him over any of the candidates being thrown out there if he COULD come back right now.

Still loves OU. Helped us with recruiting despite being away from the job. Has a son who still eats, sleeps and drinks Sooner basketball.

You da man, KS.

The way he kinda bailed on us doesn't sit well with me. I do like KS, had a good friendship with him and never had any problems with him. There were players who did have issues with him, some lile Taylor that pretty much gets along with anyone. He was definitely one hell of a coach! Long live the bubble drill!!!!

I am also mad about the way he bailed on us, but I'd take him back all the same.

I'm not upset that he bailed, I really don't think he had much of a choice. My beef with Kelvin is that he ignored the rules that got us in trouble in the first place, and then continued to make excuses for his actions.

Still, I would love to see him on the bench again if he/we were in a position to renew a once great marriage. I felt betrayed when he left, angry and hurt. But I'm over that now. I'd take the occasional scoring droughts to see the tough, hardnosed, floor-burn defense that defined Kelvin ball. Joe C. would do well if he could find a KS clone somewhere.

He left for a better program and a better salary. Who's going to say no to that? Hell, he was doing a tremendous job there until the **** hit the fan. They were like 22-4 at the point in the season when he was fired.

Had he stayed, OU probably would have gotten harsher sanctions as well. So in that we, he also helped by leaving.

Yeah I really miss losing every single game vs equal opponents away from home. Losing to worse seeds in the NCAA tournament every single year. Knowing for a fact OU would never get over the hump because Sampson could not obtain even low level NBA caliber talent.

The Big XII was horrible during his tenure. It looks to be sliding back to those levels and will be easy to find a Sampson clone. Capel has a Sampson caliber roster lined up for next season. Any number of coaches, including Capel, will be able to coach next years roster to a Sampsoneque 20 + win season and early NCAA exit in a weak Big XII.

What color is the sky in your world?

I never doubted Kelvin's coaching ability and I miss him as well.

I agree. I felt the same way about Gary Gibbs after the JB fiasco. Even marble mouth over at the SA said OU football would never return to national prominence like it was under Barry Switzer. After suffering through the JC era, I would take back 5-6 in a heartbeat. If Joe decides to hire Geno, it will confirm OU is not a top 25 basketball program. GENO! GENO! LOL

Yeah I used to gripe all the time about his offense, but after this last guy I would take him back in a minute. You always knew what you were going to bet with KS teams.

I can't believe this thread...back at that time on another board, people just came unglued if anyone defended Kelvin (which I did, because I didn't want to lose him) this is good to see that there were some that felt the same way...

I wouldn't want him back. I think he is a great coach I just was never a huge Sampson fan....I was never in favor of his style of play

It seemed with him we always beat who we should beat but rarely made the big upset. We knew every year we were going to the tournament but we almost always knew we wouldn't do much in the tournament.

Although I love sampsons consistency, no low winning seasons, I want a coach that brings more offensive excitement. One that still gets some top talent and one that gives us the talent to have a chance at more elite 8s

I like Kelvin, but it always amazes me that people have such immense reverence for a guy that blatantly lied to OUr university administration.
