One Piece of news that IS official: Student Section Name Change

That's the "story" the athletic department tried to put out, but it is far from the truth. The real story is that the athletic department wanted him gone so he was fazed out. There was no student initiative. There was no vote. They just said "get him out of here" and that was it.

BS stories like that come out of the AD all the time. Like when they renamed the football stadium and they tried to pass it off as honoring the Gaylord family when, in fact, the one stipulation in regards to the monetary gift was that they HAD to rename the stadium to get the money.

It helps to be good friends with people who work in the AD and give you all the good dope. :)

This was before my time, but didn't that have some polling going around with the wording along the lines "would you be opposed to adding mascots to go along with Top Daug"? Acting like Top Daug would still exist and Boomer and Sooner would be for other sports or something. They then used those results as a way to make it look like the students wanted him out. That is at least a story I have been told.

That is also correct, Sam. If memory serves, they presented the survey to one of the academic student committees who really had no feeling one way or the other. It wasn't a group that spent a lot of times at BBall games if you catch my drift.

It was a professional hit. They tried to come back later and say that the students had no opinion, but there was a large outcry to bring him back. All that did was turn them stubborn.

we need to chip in some coin, find a mascot company who can duplicate top daug, or at least his head, and let sam dress up as him ala crying jayhawk. i know ben mentioned this, but theres no way to find the old uniform.
