Defense and fast break points are the keys to me.
Averette hurt OU with dribble penetration, which continues to be an issue for OU - as it has for several years. He only scored 13 points with three assists, but many of his drives lead to jump shots for the Dziagwa kid, who hit 5 threes.
It will be interesting to see who tries to guard Averette, who didn't start but played 27 minutes. Odomes matched up with Carroll, so that would leave Trae as the best option.
I don't think OU duplicates 57% shooting from behind the arc, like they did in Norman. Could not find advanced metrics on fast break points for the first game, but seems like OU had a great advantage there, something they sorely lacked in Manhattan.
If OU can get the pace up like they did in Norman, then OU wins. If it becomes a half-court game, then it will be a grinder until the end.
Surprise MVP - Doolittle. Big on the boards and makes at least two threes.
