Other Top Recruits Not Yet Cleared By NCAA

According to sources, the NCAA is looking into, among other things, a relationship between Selby and Robert Frazier, the business manager for NBA star Carmelo Anthony. More commonly known in basketball circles as "Bay," Frazier is, like Selby and Anthony, a Baltimore native. He acknowledged to the New York Times in April that he served as an "advisor" to Selby and his mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, throughout the recruiting process. Sources said the NCAA has spent months investigating the details of that relationship in an attempt to determine whether Selby's amateur status has been compromised.

I know Shelby was dealling with World Wide Wes.

Where did you hear that? I read where Wes approached Selby and his mom and they wanted no part of him and Wes was pissed.
This has to do with a guy named Frazier from Baltimore.

This. I believe DM has his story wrong. I fully expect Selby to be cleared. Kanter probably will as well.

Yeah, the story with Selby's mom was that Wes introduced himself and she said something like "oh, your the World Wide Wes guy? I've been told by everyone to stay away from you". LOL.
NCAA needs to get a handle on the agents, handlers, advisors, financial consultants, whatever you want to call them. They are everywhere and you can't really blame the kids. I don't know what the answer is but it's broke right now. Even the college coaches all say that.

On one hand, Selby's signed with kansas so it's hard to say anything good about him. And the story about the Mercedes seems to be pretty blatant flaunting of the rules (or at the very least the spirit of them).

On the other... I have respect for anyone who gives WWW the finger.

Also... Tony Mitchell still has not been cleared, though his issue is with academics. Last I heard, he was planning on enrolling at Mizzou while the clearinghouse looked at his case.

When asked, Witherspoon acknowledged meeting Wesley at the LeBron James Skills Academy/King City Classic events in Akron/Cleveland earlier this month. But she discounted the significance of that encounter and emphasized that this is merely a case of her son committing too early.

Selby, a consensus top 10 national recruit in the Class of 2010, committed to UT last September.

"I met Wes, but we really didn't talk; that's not a connection like everybody thinks," Witherspoon said. "It's just that we only looked at one other school before we committed to Tennessee, and it was Louisville. It was a fast decision because we were so overwhelmed with the atmosphere at Tennessee [during a visit for the UT-Florida football game], and we just want to make sure it's right. Tennessee is still an option. It's up to Tennessee if they still want to recruit him. But on our list, Tennessee is still an option."

At the meeting he suggested to her to hire a track coach for Selby to fight off leg injuiries. Maybe it was overstated that she was dealing with him, but if the NCAA is looking at amateur status, it probably is looking at this encounter as well.

As Cheno stated what they are looking at is the relationship with Frazier. Time to give up the WWW ever getting in trouble with the NCAA dream because it won't happen. WWW has several encounters with multiple top players, many of whom have gone to Calipari's teams and nothing comes of it. This has everything to do with Frazier.

LOL. It wasn't a "meeting" and he suggested that he hire a track coach to help his speed as a knock. Here's the quote:

At the N.B.A. Players Association Camp in Charlottesville, Va., Selby was approached by William Wesley, an influential power broker in college basketball circles, after a game. Wesley, who is known as Worldwide Wes and now represents coaches in the N.B.A. and college ranks as an agent, asked Selby, “Can you play?”
Selby said, “Didn’t you just watch the last game?”
Selby walked away, and Wesley, put off by the affront, was introduced to Selby’s mother after a later game and told her that her son needed to watch his mouth because he did not realize who he was talking to. He also advised her to hire a track coach to help improve Selby’s speed.
“When he said his name, my face froze,” Witherspoon said. “I was like, ‘You’re the infamous Wes. You’re the guy who everyone told me to stay away from.’ I had read all those pages about him being powerful in GQ.”

The Selby's punked WWW. Like Sawyer said, hate KU or not, you gotta love that.
