I have to get this off my chest. At this point it appears I was wrong. When Capel was hired I was one that predicted he would lead us to our first national championship in basketball. I also predicted Capel would make OU basketball a household name. It appeared with our elite eight run and all the MCDAA's we were bringing in, my prediction was looking promising. Obviously I was wrong... at least to this point. Capel may still get this thing turned around and still yet bring us our first championship in basketball but if that happens at this point, it will be short of a miracle IMO. I've held off on posting this till the signing period but with the recent news of commits and OU not receiving any commitments, it looks like the next couple of years OU will just only be able to rebuild. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see any way with our current roster that we finish higher than 8th in the league next year and with the current state of recruiting things just don't look good.

This has been pretty disappointing to say the least. I always try to stay pretty positive but recruiting is the life line of your program in any sport and right now recruiting is a disaster. Hopefully we can at least bring some bodies in to play team first basketball and somehow Tiny Gallon comes back. Tiny, Davis, Fitz, Pledger, Clark, TJ, Neal, Allen, Franklin, & Honore are the only guys that look to be on the roster. Surely we get at least a couple more signees but as it stands by position:

PG: Taylor, Franklin
SG: Davis, Pledger
SF: Clark, Neal
PF: Fitz, Honore
C: Gallon, Allen

We will get to suffer through another year that will rank among the worst in OU history and then he will be fired.

I really hope OU basketball isn't dying, but the program may never recover from its current state. Capel should be ashamed of himself for letting it get to this!

Honore is a post player..he is by no means a SG..

Honore is a PF who is no longer on the team.

What happened to Honore? I thought he was setting out and ready to go for next year.

Everyone on this thread. Please remember what you're posting. That's all ask. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

I will post something heretic. There should be strong consideration to keeping Capel, irrespective of next year, if he is deemed the coach that the administration has confidence in. The administration's fingerprints, by their silence, are all over the current mess.

If Jeff has really gone off the range and committed violations, been deceptive during the investigation, lacks the leadership, etc. - then the administration should basically save everyone some time, buy him out, and move on.

I suspect that Joe C. and others don't know where they come down on this right now. Thus, the silence that might cripple our recruiting during the late signing period. Getting another coach is all sexy and exciting but guess what happens. We will likely lose our early recruiting class - two excellent players out of Texas. Kinda been there and done that before haven't we? I don't care who comes in at this point, I doubt if anyone we would get will bring in an overall better class than Capel. Thus, my point if you finally comes to grip with the fact that Capel is the guy - and you have clearly handicapped his recruiting for next year and noone is likely to bring in a better class - then you don't fire him for a bad season next year. You back him with enthusiasm and ride out the storm.

I just wish Joe C. and Boren would figure out where they are on this....
