OU got crushed on the boards tonight. ISU had 11 more rebounds. ISU also had 10 more free throw attempts and 12 more points from the line.
When you consider those things as well as some of the defensive break downs in the first half it really says how good OU is. ISU could have easily lost had they missed the final shot by Morris.
I wish OU had won but I see a really good team that is in games not withstanding the things Ada and I pointed out.
I should have added that when four key players score a total of 7 points and we still has a chance to win against a ranked team on the road, that speaks volumes about how good OU really is this year!
Lon's offense is too easy to defend. We must get some cutting, inside screens, better penetration, inside finishing, lobs for dunks etc.
Dribbling 30' away from the hoop and playing one on one is ineffective against a well coached team.
I agree with all of that. It's pretty amazing that we were tied in the last minute and Cousins had a good look at a 3 that would've taken the lead, and potentially won the game, with less than 30 seconds left.
Rebounding was really our achilles heel last night.
Our opponents offensive philosophy these last three games is to take the ball to the basket because our interior defense (outside of Lattin's blocks) is not very good. If they miss, they have been very effective at getting the offensive board and the putback. On a night when Spangler and Lattin are ineffective offensively, they need to be better rebounding...and they weren't.
Our offense revolves around the guards and thus our front court is limited to put backs/tipins....except for the occasional three. It doesn't bode well for us when an already limited offensive front court has an off night to go with what has become consistently poor interior defense.
That, IMO, was the difference in this game and why opposing coaches will continue to attack us on the interior.
Do you believe ISU is a top 20 team?
If OU can go on the road and not play their best game with a chance to win in the final minute, I think it bodes very well for OU.
Think about the final part of that game. ISU had the ball with 40 seconds. They had to take a shot. The game was tied. If they missed, any bucket wins it in regulation for OU. If they make it, any bucket ties and three wins it. OU was in a great situation for a road game against a really good team. Now if you don't think ISU is a good team, then things change.
