Spangler had a great game. Double double with fourteen points. He has payed really well during this five game stretch.

7 turnovers playing walk it up type basketball is pretty darn good...to have 7 turnovers while putting up 94 is pretty amazing

I wonder when we last shot just six free throws in a game. And we still spanked ISU.

I keep hearing about the officials favoring the home team, but we don't often see it in Norman.

I prefer it when they let the guys play, so in that sense, I was pleased overall with the officiating. But our first free throws came with 6:16 in the game. That's ridiculous, especially given how much of our offense happened in the paint. ISU had 14 free throws to our 6, and they were missing them in bunches, so they'd have had even more if they would have hit the first half of their 1-and-1's.

The fact that we only shot six free throws makes our dominant win that much more impressive. We shot 100% from the charity stripe so if we'd shot the 10 or 15 or 20 free throws we probably deserved to shoot, it might have been an utter blowout.

I felt it was a pretty fairly called game. OU just had guys defending inside. Where ISU left OU's guys less defended. Also OU fouled a couple guys that were bad free throw shooters.

everybody got to deviate from the norm

I don't think it was a terribly called game, either. But there is no way in the world that the first whistle-worthy contact while we were shooting came with six minutes remaining in the game. That's just laughable.

The up side is that the Cyclone faithful certainly can't blame the loss on the officiating.

Stat of the night for me: 14 points for Frank Booker. With how much of a struggle we've had getting points from our bench, this was huge. Bravo Frank!

I wasn't the only one who thought it strange we didn't get a free throw for the first (nearly) 34 minute of the game. From Ryan Aber's OU Notebook in the Daily Joke:

FREE THROWS COME LATE FOR SOONERS
Until the final 6:30 of the game, the Sooners had yet to make a trip to the free throw line.

While that would figure to spell doom against a team with the offensive firepower of the Cyclones, the Sooners had built a comfortable lead by that time with strong rebounding and solid shooting in both halves.

Iowa State had taken all 14 of its free throws by the time Ryan Spangler stepped to the line with 6:16 left.

“That’s rare,” Kruger said. “Ninety-four points usually takes a lot of free throws. I don’t know if I have (seen something like that before). That’s very unusual.”

I was so wrapped up in the game (aka freaking out as we built our lead) that I didn't even notice that we didn't shoot many free throws. It was only until I rewatched the game that I realized it. And to be honest, I'm not sure how we pulled that off.

If you would have told me that ISU shoots 60% from three for a large portion of the game, and we don't get to the foul line….I would have said we get blown out.

Eh, who cares about FT's?

When was the last time OU had 5 players score 14+ points against a quality opponent?

Sooners beat them in every single category. FG%, 3PT%, FT%, Rebounds, Off Rebounds, Steals, Blocks, Assists, Turnovers. That is impressive!

The stat line for TaShawn Thomas is incredible.

OU’s big men got 29 of OU’s 36 total rebounds.

Post Player (Minutes Played) ..... Rebounds
Ryan Spangler (34 minutes) ...........12
TaShawn Thomas (35 minutes) ...... 11
Khadeem Lattin (9 minutes) ............ 6

If you watch enough basketball, you will see all kinds of scenarios. I've been to games where teams shot a combined 30 FTs in the first half and and others where there were only three. Game had a good flow, so the officials let them play through it. Didn't hinder any scoring.

Lattin had 6 rebounds in 9 minutes of game time. Both teams combined to make 24 of 50 three pointers.

I will be posting the game on youtube in a few hours.

A lot of mutual respect for these teams. Wouldn't mind seeing a third game in the Big 12 tournament final between these two teams.

Kinda late jumping in on this thread, but I've been busy all day and I just now got the time to post.

To me, the game was won in the last 3.5 minutes of the first half (the Mayor said 5 minutes, but he needs to adjust his figures). OU overcame that 10-point lead in the last 3-1/2 minutes, and I really believe that comeback broke the Cyclones' spirit.

Those guys knew they were beaten before they came back onto the floor for the second half.

Overall, that was one of the best Sooner performances I can remember against a really good team like ISU. The Sooners just imposed their will on Iowa State over that last 23.5 minutes.
