And that even includes being unknown among its own fan base. I was reading the comments on the DOK site, below one of the game stories, and was shocked. Some guy basically posted something like, "this is a football school, and we've been terrible at basketball...."

:facepalm :facepalm

I know that the OSU overkill in the Oklahoma media has probably caused a lot of this kind of "thinking." But before Capel set the program back the way he did, we were considered a top 15-20 program, even by ESPN.

On the other hand, wins like yesterday's vs. the Evil Bevos does tend to spark some interest.

We can get back to that status in the next couple of years. A big part of the OU football fan base can't be fixed. (what was that saying?) :facepalm

This team this year is good enough to have much better fan support. Saturday had way too many empty seats, it was a Saturday afternoon
and IT WAS texas!!

Little known fact: OU owns a double digit series lead against every team that is in or was previously in (read: CU,NU,MU, & A&M) the Big 12 sans KU (who obviously owns us big time as much as it irks me to say it), TCU (series is 12-3 OU so that should be rectified shortly), & WVU (only played 6 times w/ OU owning a 4-2 lead).

I have LONG said that OU's basketball success is overshadowed by 2 things: OU football & KU basketball.

While I agree that there were too many empty seats, Texas in basketball isn't quite the same deal as it is in football. I've often thought Texas was our biggest rival in football, and OSU was our biggest rival in basketball. And the fan attendance has almost always supported that. Texas usually gets a full house if we play them on Big Monday or if OU is so good that nearly every game has the seats full. Just kind of how it's always been.

Regardless, THIS OU TEAM deserves better fan support. This coaching staff and this group of players is building the OU basketball program back into the Top-25 PROGRAM it once was.

Heck, I'm a big OU football fan. Many of those other OU football fans just don't know what they are missing. In some ways, I pity them. OU basketball is relevant again. OU basketball is fun again.
