OU on the rise with Lon Kruger [ESPN]

Re: ESPN/Andy Katz story on OU and Lon Kruger

I agree. Remember though, OU beat KU in the Big 12 tourney finals (lost to KU in AF by double-digits), but OU was rewarded with a 2 seed while KU was a 1. Seems like Duke was the overall #1 seed and Maryland was also a 1 seed and the overall 2 seed (KU was 3, Cincy 4 and OU 5).

Anyway, it seemed to me all we heard all week before the final 4 was the KU/Maryland game was the real championship game. I did not live in the Big 12 area at the time, so where I was living (Alabama) that was how the press down there was talking about it.

KU was going to have a #1 seed regardless. The shadiness was giving Cincinnati a #1 seed over OU. Of course OU made the final 4 and Cincy lost in the second round.

Re: ESPN/Andy Katz story on OU and Lon Kruger

That would be a weird position to take, considering that OU had beaten both of those teams that year.

I know OU beat UM handily in Norman (would be 10 years ago tomorrow) but I always found it rather laughable how some OU fans thought there would be no doubt that we would beat them again in the NCAA Finals.

That was a loaded UM team with at least 4 players ending up in the NBA. A March rematch of a December game can look a lot different especially with the NCAA championship riding on it.

Too bad the rematch never happened.

I agree. I just think the opposite position is just as absurd, saying that OU had no chance against two teams that had beaten. I am in no way saying that OU easily beats either team.

Re: ESPN/Andy Katz story on OU and Lon Kruger

tons and tons of national media picked OU to win the final four in 2002 when it was down to the last weekend ..

That Final Four OU team that failed to receive the #1 seed they deserved was, at least in my opinion, a better team than the 2003 Sooners, who did receive a one-seed. I'll always believe that was a make-up call by the selection committee.

(Not that the '03 team wasn't solid. But Ace was gone by then, and the Sooners were not quite as stout without him).

You're 100% correct. It was a make-up call by the NCAA Tournament Committee. We were obviously deserving of a #1 seed in '02, though.

I agree with the others that I find no reason why OU can't compete for a title with Lon. Three Elite Eight and a Final Four appearance in the past 10 years is proof that the possibility exists. Let's just hope we can shove this down Andy Katz's throat in the next few years.

I also believe OU WILL compete for (maybe even win) a national title under our Coach K. And, I believe it's possible it could happen within the next three seasons.
