Baylor 90
OU 88
Texas 75
Iowa State 65
TCU 55
WV 55
The rest---whatever arises from almost nothing.

WV has some talent: Montgomery, Stepney, (I won't mention Holmes), Muldrow and a bunch of freshmen.. It remains to be seen if they have anyone capable of shooting 40%, their weakness. Lanay gave us trouble. McDonald and Fields were trouble, but they are both gone.

TCU has a couple back. But, they still lack the size to compete.

Iowa State has some talent and some size, but more holes than usual.

I still don't think Texas has demonstrated that their talent is sufficient to win on a consistent basis.

But this whole deal of creating and announcing preseason polls or awards is only to generate interest in the upcoming season. It's meaningless otherwise!

I think you're right.

Some thought it made no sense that a few of us picked OU to finish in 3rd place. Looks like we were not the only ones who thought the same thing. It doesn't mean that's where we will finish but it means we were not completely out of line either.

I figure the coaches are about as right as they were last year.

The only possibility for Baylor was 8 first place votes and 1 second place vote.

For us we had to receive at least 5 votes for 1st or 2nd. One possibility is 1 first place vote, 4 second place votes, and 4 third place votes. A second possibility is 1 first place vote, 5 second place votes, 2 third place votes, and 1 fourth place vote.

There are a couple of other possibilities but they require more 2nd place votes. So more than half of the 9 coaches who could vote for us picked us in first or second place. Recall that Sherri did not get to give us any votes since coaches could not vote on their own team.

So the coaches have more confidence in us than some on this board. Of course it does not mean a whole lot since preseason polls are not all that dependable, but it is interesting.
