go to Bama. SEC got all the home seems like in Super's. If that series is in Norman we win (or get drowned, lol). If the Big-12 is going to be bad Patti needs to schedule a lot tougher and then win some of them. Lauren was awesome and these gals play so tough. Paige just left that ball way too high - tired or freshman or great at bat by the Bama gal.

Bottom line is OU is ranked 5th or 6th in both polls and there is NO way OU is not one of the top 8 teams in the country. Sometimes I think the committee makes us go on the road even when we shouldn't because the WS is in OKC. That is NOT OU's fault and we shouldn't be punished for our location. Remeber Arizona trip?

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

The Big 12 is killing baseball and softball because you can't get the RPI and there are too few teams. Patti is going to have to figure how to schedule but it won't be easy.

Eventually, we will discover that we should have gone to the Pacific Twelve. The Big Twelve is losing more than just at softball and baseball. Being the Big Twelve champion didn't even get one of our wrestlers to the NCAA--at all. Being Big Twelve champions did how much for Baylor and TCU in football? We are in a conference that has several schools that simply won't build an athletic program, and several who can't.

Yes, I have heard that wrestling is affiliating with another conference next year like men's gymnastics does. Softball needs to do the same thing - maybe OU Softball could play in the Pac 12 or the two could combine to offset this SEC thing.

There is no eventually. Passing on that parachute was a tremendous folly. David Boren has done WONDERFUL things for this university. It is night and day from when I walked to Owen Field as a little kid, but putting back on his politico hat and throwing the Aggies a life vest was a HORRIBLE decision.

I'm not going to pretend to have any knowledge as to what occurs moving forward, but we'll have some very tough decisions ahead regarding our conference.

If we would have hosted a super regional this year it wouldn't have gotten played because of the weather. The Big 12 was a good conference until DeLoss Dodds of Texas ran off four schools and blocked Louisville from joining. Because of distance and time differences I wouldn't want to see us in the Pac-12, but something needs to be done.

In today's world, I'm not sure that distance has much to do with it. The Big Ten stretches from Maryland to Minnesota, about 1100 miles. The ACC goes from Miami to Boston, about 1500 miles. From Norman to LA is about 1350 miles. It is about 1550 to the northern California schools, and about 1700 miles up to the Oregon/Washington schools. But, the idea was to break that up into divisions as it was with OU, OSU, Texas, and the Arizona schools in one division. Texas screwed it up, and we let them. We let their LHN intentions threaten us. The fact is that I wanted free of Texas under any circumstances. I rather like Austin and UT, except for its athletic department and alums.

We were in a different conference from Texas from 1915 to 1996. We recruited well in Texas, and the OU/TX weekend was bigger than it is now. But, Texas wrecked one conference, and we salvaged them. The SWC was about to fold when we let the more successful programs into the Big Eight. It ran off three long-standing relationships with Nebraska, Missouri, and Colorado. It had already run off Arkansas. UT Austin is a fine school. UT's athletic department and boosters are a malignant tumor that grows according to its own rules, destroying everything around it. Like tumor cells, it does not respond to contact inhibition, which would provide perspective. It will go its way until it kills its host.

I agree with much of what you wrote, Syb, with the exception that the time zone differential would be a major pain in the ass for almost all games: Both Arizona schools, all of the California, Oregon and Washington schools would be a two time difference. That's 12 schools, well over half of our conference games, and all of the jet travel.

I agree that if we could join the B1G, it would be the best solution. But I'm not optimistic of our chances. Joining the B1G would only entail dealing with a single time zone differtial.

Sherri did not want to join the pac 12 bcuz of the traveling distance. Th conference doesn't hurt us. OOC scheduling does, plus the strength of our teams. Wrestling had 3 decent wrestlers this year. One ranked 13 won the ncaa title. The smaller sports did well. All of you were happy with wbb and I assume mbb. Football just did not have a great quarterback. Tx and supporters no worse than Ou and its supporters. It's a business As 4 schools in our conference not wanting to be better or not being able to. Actually believe it is a choice and they are free to make as to where they put money and emphasis. Don't owe ou and they can put emphasis on whatever they choose.
Finally as far as Boren, would rather see someone with more integrity. Not impressed with Boren University.

When a wrestler wins the Big Twelve title in his weight division and is not even invited to the NCAA tournament, you have a problem. Ultimately, travel times will be a part of OU's future. The pac ten proposal of having Arizona and Arizona in a eastern division with the Big Twelve schools would have alleviated a lot of that.

The Big 12's weakness absolutely impacted softball this season and was the cause for OU being seeded #11. The problem is the Big 12 was weak and only had seven schools. OU had one of the most ambitious OOC schedules in the country but other conferences are so much stronger within their conference that it buries OU in the RPI. It is difficult to schedule anyone once conference play starts and OU played in the top tournaments in non-conference. They played Georgia in Cali, Kentucky in Cali, Arizona in Cali, Washington in Arizona, Arizona State twice on the road, and LSU twice on the road. LSU played 43 home games while OU only played 23. LSU was only 7-7 on the road. You look at their non-conference schedule and it included NC State at home, Notre Dame at home, Arizona in Cali, and OU twice at home. OU's non-conference schedule was much tougher than LSU. It is all about the conference and that is the problem. OU played a much tougher OOC schedule but it didn't matter because of the conference.

You might read this article by Berry Tramel about how the SEC is burying everyone in softball with facilities and money. OU's softball stadium unfortunately is like a junior college compared to the SEC facilities.

Football, Football, Football - the Big 12 is a mess - Baylor and TCU were excellent but got left out. The same thing will occur in the future. The Big 12 is closer in football to the Mountain West than it is to the SEC. It is sad but true. I hardly know anyone that doesn't think next year's home football schedule is pathetic. Nothing like playing Akron, Tulsa, Iowa State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, and TCU. I know that I held my nose for my Sooner Club and tickets payment. If OU had changed conference and had some headliner games - the renovation project would have rolled forward at probably 750 million instead the 400 million that shrank to 161 Million just like what happened in College Station.

Staying in the Big 12 is a financial disaster in the long run. The financial part is huge. The SEC Network had 540 million in revenue to be distributed among the 14 schools. The Big 12 has pretty nada except for Texas in third tier rights. OU is getting about 8M from Fox Sports.

As for Sherri and travel - if she is so against then why on earth did she do the month long road trip last season. Truth is that Big 12 really does miss A&M and Nebraska in Women's Hoops. Yes, Baylor is great and Texas and Iowa State are good but after that - it is pretty mediocre. No one was more upset about A&M leaving the Big 12 than Kim Mulkey. It impacts seeding to a large degree. At the end of the regular season, there was one Big 12 women's basketball team in the Top 25 and only two even getting votes.

As for wrestling, the Big 12 is having to add Air Force, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming in order to get automatic qualifiers. In women's gymnastics, it only has three schools. Men's gymnastics is in a different conference.

Guys, is it true that not all of the Big 12 teams play softball?

I thought we just got almost 26 million tv money.
Yes we need better competition from other schools, but joining the pac 12 would mean most of our away games would be really late. That would suck if you get up early. Also I can drive to Lawrence, Stillwater, Manhatten, Ames, Fort Worth. Heck of a lot further to Arizona, let alone the west coast schools. No way to drive for a football game for me, let alone attend other sports conference away games.
But I would be glad to leave texas U behind and be in a conference with great plains schools.
PS...I think only 7 schools in conference play softball

The money is in the TV and money makes the difference. The gap is getting wider by the minute. The 26 million sound good until you compare it. The Big 12 was already in last among Power 5 in revenue.

SEC – 2014-292.8M 2015-455M
Big 12 – 2014-213M 2015-252M

It won't be long until the Big 12 schools do not matter anymore.

The SEC is leaving the Big 12 in the dust.

Oklahoma in the Pac 12 would make about as much sense as West Virginia in the Big 12.
