OU Team Camp this weekend

You aren't calling anyone out. It is an open forum. Your are welcome to your beliefs. I just think you are wrong. Kruger is welcome to recruit anyone he wants to and play them in any position he wants to as far as I'm concerned. The program has a winning tradition and and his job is to uphold it and do it clean. But, I have done enough reading and finding video to watch over the last few weeks to have a fair understanding of how he has done it in the past. He is limited by his personel, but, we will see alot of looks over the next couple years. It might be a point, two wings and a high and low post. Or mayby a more traditional 2-1-2 look. A couple of seasons back he beat them with a two that he could get open and seldom missed. But, the team that I suspect he believes that he can take to the bank would be a solid point, a competent post, and three athletic wings that can go inside out.

Fair enough. I just think a lot of teams are going to more of a 3-2 look (3 true guards, 2 posts, one of which has perimeter skills). And to keep up with those teams, you almost have to play a similiar lineup, unless you have a freak somewhere that can match up with a player he shouldn't ordinarily be able to matchup with.

Either way, it should be exciting.

I hear this every year about somebody. And nearly every year, said player ends up being a 4/5. You can't have a bunch of bigs out on the wing chasing guards through screens. I don't care how athletic Osby or M'Baye are, they have no business playing on the wing, especially defensively. Teams are going small, not big. And in the college game, it is nearly impossible to take advantage of having a big 3, going against a smaller one. It just doesn't happen in college. Most teams, or a lot of teams, play a smaller 4 (PF) then the college game saw 10 years ago. And in a way, the 5's (C) have gotten smaller too.

Just b/c a guy can't score with his back to the basket, doesn't make him a 3. Ace McGee is a perfect example of that. Selvy. The list could go on and on.

Sorry calling you out on this, it's just a giant pet peeve of mine.

You know. . .this isn't entirely true. . The game hasnt gotten smaller. . .if anything it has gotten bigger. You see bigger wings and bigger guys with perimeter skills. I havent seen Osby play but I think it is very logical that he could be a three. . . I think it is more likely that Cam plays the three and Osby plays the four.

Every coach has a different approach. . If you have a bigger three that may not be able to follow a smaller guy through screens you adjust your defense and play to your strengths. It is all a game of matchups and advantages. . If you are bigger at the three then you take advantage on the offensive end and make the other team play at a disadvantage there. Look at Syracuse and their vaunted zone and putting their length on the floor. . .alot of that originally probably developed out of need. . . BUT they had their own advantages. Any coach worth their weight in salt will know how to play to their strengths. I have faith in Kruger and his decisions. Im walking a mile in his shoes in a sense because I too am starting my first year at a college and will have to figure out how to balance what we have returning and bring in new talent to blend in with it, introduce a new system and try to put the best product on the floor. Some people will agree with my decisions and some wont. Hopefully the end result will be positive!
