Re: OU-Texas Box Score

Our frontcourt (Lattin, Spangler, Buford, McNease, and Manyang): 6 total points and 12 total rebounds between them. Also 2 assists, 6 TOs, and only 1 block.:facepalm

Tough to beat good teams (especially on the road) when that is all the contribution that you get from your bigs......sigh.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

50 of our 61 shots were attempted by our three starting guards. And some of those other 11 were just follow up tip ins and such. That is not a good stat.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

Yep. We got killed on the boards.

Also, the FT discrepancy ain't pretty. The officiating was pretty terrible in the 2nd half but we also weren't attacking.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

go another directions...bench

39 minutes
4 pts
8 reb
1 stl
2 TO

not a deep bench

Walker played 4 in the first half
Ak played his 4 in the 2nd half
McNeace played his 6 in the first half
Odomes? less than a minute..didn't see it.

Buford and James split their 12/13 minutes in both halves

there were a few bad calls, but we got some as well. The bottom line is like you said, ut drove the lane...34 pt in the paint to our 16.

Agreed. It didn't help that Isaiah and Jordan were a combined 8 of 26 (30%) from the field.

OU needed a solid performance from at least three of their starters to win a tough game like this on the road. Unfortunately, they didn't get it.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

Our post play has digressed over the course of the season. No doubt about it. We really are ineffective at the 5. It allows other teams to overplay the perimeter players because they can ignore our inside game.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

Lattin is no inside threat, except junk baskets. Spangler...man, osu was killing it...several opportunities to shoot the 3 and didn't. His post moves on the guards were predictable, therefor they stripped him of the ball...

yeah, 5 def on 3 off guys doesn't work well.

We only had 9 total shot attempts from those 5 post players. Of the 6 points, Buford had 2 follow-up dunks and Spangler's basket came off a tipped ball that ended up in his hands. Lucky. None of those 3 buckets came off an assist.

Yep. And here's the deal.....I feel like we can run a couple of sets a few times a game to get our big guys a good easy look at the basket....but doing this doesn't seem to be a point of emphasis often enough. Whether it is downscreens or quick ball-revearsal, I think our bigs are talented enough to seal off a guy down low for an easy layup on occasion. It certainly doesn't need to be priority number one on offense, but it could be done just often enough to keep the opposition's low-block players honest. And it's a "high-percentage" shot as well. I don't think we try to do this enough.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

Lammert and Ibeh were the difference today.

Spangler couldn't score while posting up Felix today.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

College basketball really needs to do something about the home court advantage, I.e the refs goin in dry on the road team. That ft discrepancy is a joke. Either that or make sure Ou gets the same treatment when we are at home.

Style of play has a lot to do with free throws, too. OU only tried 2 times to pass into the post with Spangler posting up Felix. Also, they run a perimeter offense with very little dribble penetration. They do pass to Spangler when they run their sets but he's out at the 3-point line. That's not going to draw many fouls.

Re: OU-Texas Box Score

We cannot expect to win when Hield is our leading rebounder and when Woodard and Cousins outrebound Spangler and Lattin.

Couldn't be more disappointed in our defense today. Sometimes shots aren't going to fall, but the one thing you should always be able to count on, home or away, is tough defense. And ours down the stretch tonight was cripplingly pathetic. 22-0 run.

effort at the end of the games for rebounds were huge. Rebounds were pretty even until our slump started. Then Texas dominated the rebounding which ultimately seals the game.

I am in Key West and glad that I missed the game on TV. It must have been real ugly for the last 10 min.
