I'm sorry, gary. But, I stated a fact. You may not like the fact. You may try to overcome the fact. But, it is still a fact.

Your argument is a further pretense since the great competitiveness that you describe has never actually existed. The Kentucky's, Kansas's, and Duke's of the world still dominate, and you don't see much competition from the outliers. Pick your final four this year, and it might have been the same twenty years ago.

Fact, Sherri has been to three final fours in twelve years.
Fact, the men's program has been to three final fours in its history.
You can't overcome the simple reality that this is fact.

Yes those are facts. You are trying to make the case that the women's program has achieved more than the men's. Those facts do not support your argument. You know that and you used the argument anyway. That is what I'm telling you.

Back when Sherri made her 1st final 4 that was probably about the same as a men's team making a sweet 16. The women's game has gotten more competitive since then . But not enough to be equal in difficulty of success.

Sherri has done a really nice job in the past. She continues to do journeyman's work. For some of you guys she is Wonder Woman.

Fennelly has a very good record against Sherri.

They were just more consistent with their game. They do a great job of driving and dishing off for open treys. I don't think that we try that very often. With Vegas, Hook, Wyatt and Cornet we could probably get them a lot more open shots if Carter and Campbell would drive and instead of forcing the shot kick off to a good three point shooter.

It isn't that we don't have good outside shooters. It is just that we don't get many open shots. I think Vegas had one and Wyatt had one both of which was rushed a bit and missed.

We did much better at covering their drive and dish when we closed it up in the second half.

The bad charge call on Carter really hurt as well as the rebound that we did the Alfonse and Gaston on.

Iowa State also did a pretty good job of stopping our running game. We usually get a fair number of treys off the break but I don't remember one today.

The ladies may prove me wrong but I do think we were a little overrated coming into the season. Of course we lost Maddie and that hurts. I'm usually a glass half full guy but if we don't get our game smoothed out and play with more consistency we are looking at 11-7 or 10-8 in the Big 12.

Vinny, a lot of us prefer the women's game, which puts us on the same page as John Wooden. But, it would be nice if you came back when you had something positive to say. I don't know that I've seen you do that.

Vegas got the only really good look that I saw. But, she is a bit off right now for some reason. She has passed up some good shots at times. Something seems to have her on edge. Shooters sometimes do that.

I think that Sherri sees the pieces that she wants. About this time every year, we are wondering what is going on. Usually, by the time of the NCAAs, we somehow have put a team together that works together well.

I get the feeling that Sherri thinks that Kay Kay and Gioya will develop, and Vegas will come though this. If that happens, this could be a dangerous team at tournament team. I think we got some shots today. We just didn't make them. What if we don't rush those layups? We were one shot away or one rebound away from winning in regulation over a pretty fair team. It was kind of that way with Louisville.

Team was preseason Big 12 pick to win the conference. Has it not jelled, lots of injuries, anyone thing to pinpoint the stagnation to date? Is there a danger team won't make the NCAAs? Hopeful for a resurgence soon.

Biggest mistake is playing zone against ISU - the way that team shoots, you can't do it - it rains 3 pointers. Team was much better off in man because they were not playing Texas Tech.

All that being said, the game was lost on two plays. The first being the failure to secure a rebound losing it out of bounds with 6 seconds to play. The second being a game impacting bad call with ISU's post player in the restricted area in overtime. Instead of a 2 + 1 to tie, it went the other way and did not foul out the ISU inside threat.

Sooners were close but that only counts in horseshoes and nukes. By the way, I think Carter has incredible upside but it doesn't make sense that Sherri seems to be developing for next year rather than dealing with the season at hand. I hope I'm wrong but without a great turnaround this team seems headed for second division in the Big 12 when it was picked to win it.

Those two plays did have a major impact.

I don't think Sherri is preparing for next year with Gioya. Every year, we begin the conference season with some questions. Last year, Jo hadn't really come back well from her broken jaw, and we were worried about finding a rebounder. She did pretty well late in the year. I think Sherri tends to point to about the last third of the conference season to peak, trying to develop as the season progresses. We know, for example, that Vegas will almost certainly come around. She has three good seasons to tell us that she can shoot. If Vegas had been Vegas, we might have lost only one game this year, maybe none. We have lost three very close games that were tied with a minute or so left or went to OT. A three from someone who has been successful for three years could have changed the season. I think we might well assume that some of this will come back together.

I thought it was a good game. ISU is 14 rated. J Buckley is living up to her hype in high school. OU will put it together. Only game that shocked me was Marist. I will say OU has a great shot to beat UT. Also, its just nice to see L Cox visiting multiple times.

Life has interfered with my basketball watching this year so I haven't been able to see the Marist game or the ISU game. Any opinion I'm stating is based on limited information.

It seems to me this this team's problem isn't a lack of talent or effort. It's a maddening lack of consistency from many, if not all of the players. Someone in another thread mentioned substitution patterns. How does a coach determine a consistent substitution pattern when you don't know how each player is going to play from game to game?

It appears that the only good thing about this game was that according to the box score, we got sub-par performances from everyone but Morgan and Sharane and we still took the game to overtime.

Aaryn, Nicole Kornet, KK and Derica Wyatt combined for about 18 points in over 60 minutes. We have to get more production from those 4 players.

About the only thing that shocked me yesterday is that we took forever to make any defensive changes to slow Buckley down. I'm sure after every 3 pointer she made, she was thinking, "thanks again Sooners for ignoring me!" If we ignore Sims like that she might score 60.

We are ranked 2nd in the league in Scoring Offense. We are 3rd in Free Throw %. We are 1st in Field Goal %. We are 3rd in 3 Pointers Made Per Game.

We are ranked 8th in Scoring Defense, just ahead of Kansas and Kansas St. We are ranked 7th in Field Goal % Defense. We are 8th in blocked shots.

Most of our rebounding stats are middle of the road.

I 'think' we will get better in our 3 point shooting; although, no one can be sure of that at this point as Gioya and Sharane have shot poorly from the BTA and continue to do so. Kornet is also shooting less than 30%. The one thing I am sure of is this...if this team doesn't get better defensively, we are going to lose more games that we should win. Defense is similar to rebounding as both depend on position and effort. We are often out of position on defense and and we don't have many who play defense like their hair is on fire.

Observations from yesterday's game, for what it's worth.

We missed 11 lay-ups/cripshots, hit half and no worries.

They drive the full length of the court with 8.5 seconds left in the first half for an uncontested lay-up, same as against Louisville. You would think we would have learned a lesson.

The reason we did a poor job of getting BTA shots, is we went back to dribble, dribble, dribble. Did not move the ball crisply and make the defense react. ISU did a masterful job and moving our defense and got looks all day.

We did a nice job of scoring inside and getting to the line, free throw shooting was outstanding, don't care about over time because we should locked down the win and gone to the house.

I agree with Norm on our defense, the kids played three fourths of the game in a funk and finally woke up in the last 4 minutes and should have stolen a win, except for poor rebounding technique on two missed shots.

This team right now looks like a shadow of itself that faced tough Gonzaga, Louisville, and Duke teams. They have the talent to compete and beat every single team in the Big XII, I am just waiting for them to show up and give 40 minutes of "hell" every time they take the floor. Once all the kids on the same page, they will be a tough team to beat, right now.............
