OU vs Marist on Dish?

I agree that it is way too early to write off this team. But, I think most agree they have a lot of work to do.

I, for one, have not written this team off. I've only stated that I am not surprised by what they are doing. They should make improvement with each game IF they are learning from their losses and mistakes. Time will tell.

Some on here think Soonerbay is too hard on Coale, but I think you would have to admit that he makes many valid points about our recruiting.

What do you disagree with Bay about on our recruiting?
Begin with the first word and end with the last. I don't think Bay has a clue about recruiting. The understanding of the situation of OU is so vastly different from what some on this board perceive that it isn't even a matter of discussion. I am stunned that Sherri is able to recruit as well as she has been, but, then, I see Norman and OU from the outside as well as from within.

Y'all...you have to give her credit for the recruiting that she is able to do. Especially out of state. Now before I say this, let me say that I'm from Oklahoma, and I absolutely loved living there. HOWEVER, if I'm a 16,17,18 year old girl...do I really wanna go to college in Oklahoma? Ill say Boomer Sooner til the day I die, but if I put myself in their perspective, I don't know that I would be choosing Oklahoma. You have to take into consideration location when recruiting. Oklahoma (especially in Georgia) is known as a state with not a lot to do, horrid weather, and "that state that looks like a pot". We aren't on the beach, and we don't have a place like Atlanta or LA right down the road. So what they've been able to pull out of state- Griffin, Morgan, Aaryn, Kornet, Manning...they've done a heck of a job getting those girls on campus.

Exactly. And, this is Norman and OU from the outside.

Following are the recruiting rankings for 2013 and 2014. It is highly unlikely all of those teams are located in cities which are easier to recruit to than Norman. Plus, we have the tradition of having been to three final fours since 2002. That makes it MUCH easier to sell your program to recruits. These lists are obviously not 100% accurate but they are pretty good indicators of how our recruiting stacks up against other programs.

I am very high on Ortiz, Dungee, and Peyton. I also like what little I've seen of Pierre-Louis. Johnson has to be a major target for 2017 but right now we have to have really good bigs. I realize that we cannot have 13 elite players on the roster but I do think it's very realistic we have 2 or 3. I just think it is a disappointment when our recruiting classes aren't ranked in the top 20 for two years in a row. Recruiting cannot be based on finding "diamonds in the rough." You have to go after the great players and win on a few.

Your perception is that of an insider to Norman and OU.

If that means that OU should not take a backseat to schools such as Georgia Tech, Iowa St, Pittsburgh, Marquette, Arizona, Washington, etc, you're right. To think otherwise would mean that girls such as Courtney, Ashley, DRob, Stacey, Whitney and many others weren't very smart for choosing OU.

To blame any recruiting short fall on Norman, or Oklahoma is simply ludicrous. There are certainly schools (Duke, Stanford) that can take players on educational interests. Ever been to UCon.,Knoxville,Louisville, and so on. Using Norman or Oklahoma is simply a lame excuse. Kansas seems to do OK in men's basketball? We seem to do OK in Softball?

I could not agree more! :clap:clap:clap

Patty Gasso does not seem to have a problem with getting top rated recruits to OU. Why should Coale?

Exactly! Don't tell Gasso OU is a subpar school because she still thinks it's a great school to recruit to.

Beyond ludicrous!!!!

And at OU we can’t get a high school top 10/AA or a McDonald’s AA since …2006 when you had FOUR on the team? This would be but one of my recruiting pieces with a handwritten note (when legal to do so) that says, “YOU WILL GET YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO REBOUND & SCORE! SHE DID…and did it better than men and women in the NCAA, NBA and WNBA!”

I do not believe geographical location has anything to do with it. Yes, there are other programs that have a tradition of academic prowess, but 99% of the coaches at those schools (Duke, Stanford, Northwestern, Harvard, et al) did not graduate from the college where they are coaching and yet, they seem to be doing ok in life! It doesn’t matter where one gets their degree, it’s what you do with it after you get it! Furthermore, OU has an excellent academic reputation and benefit for student-athletes…

But what do I know about recruiting (per Syb…” I don't think Bay has a clue about recruiting.” LOL!

This is not softball. It doesn't take much to notice a difference.

Geography is one aspect. Academic standing is another. Neither is the key.

And, no, Bay, nor Norm, has a clue about recruiting.
