OU-Washburn Stats/Notes/Quotes/Photos/Highlights

Thank you for this. Loved the highlights. My heart sank when I saw the emptiness of Lloyd Noble. I'm so excited about this team. The Sooner Nation should be also.

I wouldn't read too much into that. It was election night, and an exhibition. I watched part of one of Texas' exhibitions, and it was worse.

If we reach our potential this year, it will be because we figure out how to rebound consistently. IN every other aspect of the game, this team will excel. Rebounding is a major concern.

Agreed, rebounding and FT shooting will determine 4-6 games this year. I really think our guards will out-rebound the posts this year.

Told you guys Washburn was a pesky group. Lon Played every a lot. He wanted to see what guys could do there.

We have alot of guys, but at this point most of them are just guys.

I liked Lattin showing some offense and James looks like the real deal. McGusty is better than Odomes. Doolittle didn't really impress yet, he has the tools but he is undersized and pulled down 2 rebounds vs Washburn in 21 minutes. 3/9 and 0/3 from 3pt.

Sheperd looks mediocre, Strong looks like Walker to me...streaky Juco product.

Jamuni will get eaten alive vs good competition but exceled last night.

Woodard, James, Lattin will have to carry this team. We need Mcgusty to grow up fast and Odomes/Doolittle to find their shots.

Freeman looked softer than Mcneace. He can shoot which is nice

overall, liked the effort but have a long ways to go. Nothing about this exhibition assures me that we will be anything better than bubble team. Kruger coaching them up is the only thing that is giving me hope so far

Wow. Call me shocked.

Little harsh for day one but hey its a good morning!

It may be harsh, it is just an exhibition but it is my first impression of this team!

I think its important to call the good with the bad! Like I said, I trust Kruger coaching and think he will elevate this team but the individual players besides the big 3 (lattin, woodard, james) have a ways to go. I look at big 12 teams and we have 1-2 players that would start on most every big 12 team. Last year we had 3-4.

Important to note the start point for a young team like this, so growth can be truly accounted for. No shame in that, thes eplayers will develop! How much and how quickly is the question!!!
and you're right, its a YUGE morning!

Agreed with everything except Mcneace. He battled for tough rebounds, his jump hook looks like a solid go-to move, & he contested the rim very well.

He didn't look good in post defense (stood straight up too much), but I believe he will pick that up soon since he's only played the post for about 4 years and the 2 years in high school he probably could play straight & still block his opponent's shot.

Which of the newcomers played the best D????

None of them stood out in that area, but this is what I would rank them on D:

1) Strong - decent build, quick. He should be much better than Walker in this area and could pick up full court.

2) Doolittle - very strong and good athleticism. Didn't hedge very well or rebound like I think he can. Guarded the perimeter decent though.

3) McGusty - He is offense 1st but has long arms and has a great feel for the game. Can be a good defender if he puts in the work & effort.

4) Shepherd - Long arms and solid quickness. Game looks too fast and physical right now but in a year or 2 he will be very solid.

5) Freeman - Can't guard anywhere 1 on 1 and was terrible hedging. Also didn't grab a rebound. I hope (and think) he will get there in time because he is going to be a nightmare for opponents on the offensive end.

1.I'm just afraid that Lattin is going to try and be "THE GUY" and force up so much this year.
2. Woodard was hurt or is just slower and his shot wasn't pretty last night.
3. James is the real deal.

I'm just happy basketball is back! I hope Lon presses more this season especially if we do play a 9-10 man rotation. If we struggle at times why not try to speed up the other team and use our athleticism.

Let me know what you're drinking and I'll see if I can fill your half-empty glass. :)

After the first half I really didn't know what to think. I will say I was disappointed. But I was happy to see them impose their will on them more in the second half. The defense looked alot better. Rebounding is going to leave alot to be desired this year i'm afraid. The thing is, OU is young and everything about this game will improve hopefully.

Lattin--Looks better offensively. Still rebounding and trying to block shots. Hope he does alot this year but does not try to do too much like someone else said.

Doolittle--Seemed tentative but looks like a hoss. Feels like he's about to bust out. Shot looks beautiful. Disappointed in his rebounding totals. Though sometimes the ball just doesn't come your way. One game. It seems like he plays more like a wing than an inside guy...

Odomes--Looks like specimen but seems to struggle with ballhandling, stone hands, and a work in progress shot, which we knew. So, he needs to play great defense and rebound his rear off. This guy I look for to get tons of minutes and improve the most in non-con.

James--Looks great man. Still kinda worried about handles against better teams. Love his tenacity and effort.

Woodard--Wondering if back to PG will affect his game. Seemed to bring the ball up slow and looked uncomfortable after taking the year off from doing it. But love him as a player, hope he as a great sr year.

McGusty--Looked good offensively. Nice jumper, needs to play a little stronger. Looks like he'll improve alot with PT.

Strong--Really impressed. Brought the ball up with more ease than Jordan it seemed like. Loved his outside shot. Hope his shoulder holds up.

Freeman--Nice looking outside shot but doesn't look like a mix it up inside guy.

Can't think of any other real takeaways. Hope to see Dante Buford soon and see how much he's improved.
