Capel isn't competing with the big boys with his last two prospects, signee and commit.

What's the new strategy or is he in survival mode trying to find bodies?

Is Nick Thompson a highly ranked talented?

Who else is on the tarmac?

How can you really rank recruits when your mascot is a clown anyway? To me ranking recruits isn't really possible till they get here.

I don't think Capel plans to stop pursuing MDAA. He's just trying to field a team that can compete next year. Just because a few kids didn't pan out doesn't mean that we should abandon recruiting the top prospects.

I personally think that every recruit we have coming in is solid. I don't expect any to jump ship after one year. Washington and Neal are steals. A juco AA and a Gatorade POY. Add that to Clark and Taylor. 8 down 5 to go. Keep them coming.

This statement is asinine. Obviously, nobody knows for sure what they have until they get on campus. But, there has to be some way of evaluating who to bring in and who not to. That's where our problem came from, the evaluation.

Well, as you know, there are about 40 MCAA's available at this point in the signing period, but because of this year Capel told them all they had to run 5 miles singing Boomer Sooner before he'd even look at them. So, we're in the JUCO ranks. Those guys love to sing.

He competed with the big boys on previous recruits because he was in on them from day 1....these guys we are targeting now werent even on the radar until recently...

Recruiting is about developing a relationship, guys committ to coaches more than they do the school...this is the case for even the most high profile schools (i.e Tubby Smith/Billy Clyde @ UK)

We only need players now who WANT to be at OU, WANT to work hard and WANT to win, and preferably stay at least 3 years if they come in as a freshman. We have to completely "redig" the foundation of OU basketball if you will.

At this point I think Capel is more worried about being able to have enough capable players next year than signing McDonalds AA.

The evaluation of players by Capel & staff whether it be a JC,McD AA's,or just an average high school player is still a question mark!!Go Sooners!!!

I get the impression that Capel is looking for a couple of JUCO guys to help out next year, and a couple of HS kids who will be here for the long haul and will be dedicated to the team and the university before they worry about filling up their column of the stat sheet.

Capel has never had to deal with some of the higher maintenance recruits who always had their eye on the NBA, I think this has been a huge education for him.

I just hope he can turn it around quickly.

Until they change the rule where they make HS kids go to college for 1 yr vs the NBA (if they're good enough), any program is susceptible to what we saw happen with OU. So with that being said Capel shouldn't change his recruiting philosophy one bit.

I don't know about his philosophy, but he also brought in guys like Maze, Neysmith, Early, Cannon, Patillo, Willis, Allen in addition to the McDAA guys. His track record of evaluating 2nd tier recruits and JUCOS is not very strong either.

I'm trying to be more understanding in my posts. sooners8 says the same thing that has been said about a thousand times, I thank him for the insight.

Now, if Nick Zepp gets on a recruiting thread to say how he doesn't follow recruiting (or the variant: "recruiting ratings mean nothing") for the 500th time because "you never know how good they will be until they actually play for OU" I might go postal.

Last year proved my point.
